I wasn’t really sure what to do with my goals, since at this point, I have no clue what will happen with my life after June. Which stresses me out, but it also means I don’t know if I will be in a place were I can read a lot?! So I will make goals, but if they seem unrealistic by then, I won’t be annoyed for not being able to reach them!
My 2020 reading goals are going to be very similar to my 2019 reading goals (see here!), but you probably don’t remember those so I will just list them again 🙂
- Read 200 books, I have no idea how I keep being able to read this much, but I’m enjoying it!
- Read 12 classics, I want to read one classic a month again, but I noticed near the end of 2019 I started to not enjoy the classics I was reading, so I have to be sure to read classics I’m actually interested in and not the necessarily the ones from the most popular authors!
- Read 5 non-fiction, I struggled with doing this one last year, but I did read some good and interesting ones! And I definitely learned something from those!
- Finish 10 series, I also struggled with this goal last year, since I wasn’t sure when it counted haha. For this year I mean to finish series I started before 2020, catching up on a series doesn’t count!
- Read 30 2020 releases, I think this one will be really doable, based on the amount of 2019 releases I read in 2019.
- Read 30 ‘backlist’ books, for me this are books released before 2017 (2017 not counting, and books I’m counting as classics also don’t count)
I think I will be able to do this!
Louis Theroux is my favourite non-fiction author, he makes you forget that you’re not reading fiction. My two faves are The Psychopath Test and Them: Adventures with Extremists.
Thanks for the recommendation! I will look those up!
I like your goal of 30 backlist books. I’m hoping to read a lot of backlist this year myself. Good luck to you!
Good luck to you too!!
Great Goals! I wanted to read more classics in 2019 and failed miserably. Which is a shame because there’s some great books from decades past I haven’t read yet! Best of luck with your reading!
Thanks! I hope you have a great 2020!
great list, evelyn! my goal for this year is probably to read more backlist books as i’ve been really enjoying them lately! i also want to read more classics and non-fiction, as well as diverse books 🙂
I hope we will both achieve those goals!
Best of luck with all of your goals in 2020! If you ever need a non-fiction recommendation let me know! I love non-fiction.

Ooh that’s good to know! Thanks!
You’re welcome!
I really ought to try to request fewer books for review, and also resolve to DNF if I don’t like a book! I’ll probably fail at both goals, but oh well, I am okay with that 😀
I feel you on those goals!!
I think it’s a great idea to try to set goals, but then to understand that sometimes situations change and those goals might need to change with them. 🙂 Way to set yourself up for success.
I love your goals. 200 books? *whistles* I hope you can make it! I’m officially upping my goal to 150 next year, and we’ll see how that goes. xD
Yeah I think being able to change goals is good!
I hope you will manage!!
These are great goals. I need to read backlisted books too.
Thanks!
Good luck with your goals!
Thanks!
Good luck with everything Evelyn
And wow before 2017 for backlist huh I have so many new releases to read, even my backlist reading goal is going to be for 2019 and before
Yeah I agree haah! But there are also so many ‘older’ books I want to read!
I wish you the best of luck! I admire people who can read 200 books a year—whew it’s a lot.
Thanks!
