What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
Picking up just a few months after A Reaper at the Gates left off…
The long-imprisoned jinn are on the attack, wreaking bloody havoc in villages and cities alike. But for the Nightbringer, vengeance on his human foes is just the beginning.
At his side, Commandant Keris Veturia declares herself Empress, and calls for the heads of any and all who defy her rule. At the top of the list? The Blood Shrike and her remaining family.
Laia of Serra, now allied with the Blood Shrike, struggles to recover from the loss of the two people most important to her. Determined to stop the approaching apocalypse, she throws herself into the destruction of the Nightbringer. In the process, she awakens an ancient power that could lead her to victory–or to an unimaginable doom.
And deep in the Waiting Place, the Soul Catcher seeks only to forget the life–and love–he left behind. Yet doing so means ignoring the trail of murder left by the Nightbringer and his jinn. To uphold his oath and protect the human world from the supernatural, the Soul Catcher must look beyond the borders of his own land. He must take on a mission that could save–or destroy–all that he knows.

My thoughts:
This review is going to be quite short, since it is the last book in a series, and I don’t want to spoil anything! But the most important message you need to take from this review is that this series is amazing and you need to pick it up if you haven’t already!
I’m so glad I picked up this series this year! It has become one of my favourites, and since I only started this year I could read them all pretty quick after each other!
I did struggle a little bit with getting into the story since it still was a couple of months since I read book three. But once again the plot and the writing gripped me so quickly and once I was reading I could not put the book down!
I don’t really know what to say about this book and whole series! It really took me by surprise, I fell in love with the writing and the world and characters Tahir has created!
All the characters went through so much during this series, and they all developed so much! It was very interesting to see their story and relations change during the books.
Sometimes I feel like in YA fantasy books authors hold a bit back, and aren’t as ‘cruel’ to their characters as they could be. But Sabaa Tahir went there, and this ending wrecked me! I reread certain sentences a couple of times, just to confirm I was reading it correctly!
I’m 100% going to pick up whatever Tahir writes next!
Glad you enjoyed this one too!
Thanks 🙂
Aaaah, so glad this one was a great conclusion to the series! This is going to take me a while to get to but I’ll be looking forward to it!
I hope you will like it once you do!
I have very similar feelings about this Evelyn !!! I really enjoyed it too but couldn’t really find words to write a proper review. Yours is lovely
It is hard sometimes to write reviews!
Both because this is the last book in a series, and it was so good that I just don’t know the right words!
Thanks
omg this just reminded me i need to write my own review for this book lol.
but that ending DESTROYED me!! especially the fates of two particular characters
I love this series and these characters so much and sabaa Tahir is such a brilliant writer I was sad to finish the book. I really liked your short and concise review!!!
Ooh I will look forward to it!
Same for me!!
Thanks
