What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
She’s an assassin with a gift her parents died for.
He’s a reluctant prince content to drink himself
into oblivion.
And hiding in plain sight amongst them both, a monster
is searching for redemption.
In a kingdom where magick is forbidden and
spoken of only in whispers, they must each face their own demons, walking the
line between loyalty and betrayal.
Enter a dark new world full of forbidden love,
painful loss, and a growing war between those with power and those who crave
it. An Unholy Magick is a bloody and spell-binding fantasy debut, the first
from Kali Rose Schmidt’s shadowy series, Vile Sacraments.

My thoughts:
I always feel so bad for not liking books I get for review.. But I do want to be honest!
First of all I did really like the writing style of this book!
Unfortunately that was about it. This book felt like reading Throne of Glass! And I get that books can be similar, but this almost felt like copying. I mean an assassin that gets caught, and becomes the king’s assassin. Oh and then it seems she has magic, which is actually forbidden. Also the prince falls in love with her.. And I just could not see all the similarities.
Most of the book we read from Elena’s view, but then there are some random paragraphs that are written from someone else’s perspective, which was weird, and confused me. I get that sometimes another perspective can be helpful for the story, but it only happened like four times throughout the book, and then I think it is better to not change?1 But maybe that’s just me.
I know this is very short, but basically I was just not a fan, but gave 1 star for the writing!
Aww, man, sorry this ended up being a 2-star book for you. That cover is freaking awesome, and the summary sounds fantastic. Shame it didn’t quite live up to that.
Yes the cover looks so good! Always disappointing when a book doesn’t really live up to your expectations!
