What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
Our heroes are back… kind of. From the bestselling co-authors of the Illuminae Files comes the second book in the epic series about a squad of misfits, losers, and discipline cases who just might be the galaxy’s best hope for survival.
First, the bad news: an ancient evil—you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal—is about to be unleashed. The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They’ve just got to take care of a few small distractions first.
Like the clan of gremps who’d like to rearrange their favourite faces.
And the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be, who’ll stop at nothing to get their hands on Auri.
Then there’s Kal’s long-lost sister, who’s not exactly happy to see her baby brother, and has a Syldrathi army at her back. With half the known galaxy on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted.
When they learn the Hadfield has been found, it’s time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them. But time is short, and if Auri can’t learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV.
Shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gifts, inappropriately tight bodysuits, and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion’s most unforgettable heroes—and maybe the rest of the galaxy as well.

My thoughts:
First of all, I’m so thankful for those first couple of pages, where they literally tell you what you still needed to know from book one! I needed that, since it has been over a year since I read book one!
As soon as the book began I fell back ion love with every character. They are all very distinct and interesting and funny in their own way! If I would have to choose I think Scarlett, Zila and Finnian are more my faves then the others! I love Scarlett’s and Finnian’s humour! And I love that Zila doesn’t get the sarcasm but she tries! I also love that we got Zila’s backstory! We also got to learn more about Kal and where he is from, which I also really enjoyed learning about! This world just keeps expanding.
Once again, the plot was great! Kristoff and Kaufman just have to keep writing boos together forever, I will read them! I love their writing and their humour! I quite often found myself grinning to the book while reading, just as with book one and the Illuminae Files!
I actually might have liked this one more then book one! At least just as much. I was just so invested in the story that I could not put it down, and devoured the whole thing in two days!
But that ending?!?! How am I supposed to wait at least another year for the conclusion?! (There is no set release date for the last book just yet!)
I cannot say too much about this book without spoiling book one! But I absolutely loved this! And I definitely recommend picking up book one!
I’m so glad you loved this! I adored book 1 and can’t believe I haven’t picked this one up yet, though I own a copy. I was worried I’d need to do some rereading from book 1 because I’m so bad at remembering specific details when it’s been this long since reading something, so I was happy you mentioned there being a really good recap in the beginning.
No rereading necessary haah!
I hope you will love it just as much!
So glad you loved this one, Evelyn! I keep meaning to start this series. 🙂
I hope you will enjoy it!
Great review & I completely agree that ending killed me… dreading the wait for book 2!
Exactly!
That ending, right? How can we wait another year?
Exactly?!
