What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
What if you knew how and when you will
die?
Csorwe does — she will climb the mountain, enter
the Shrine of the Unspoken, and gain the most honoured title: sacrifice.
But on the day of her foretold death, a powerful
mage offers her a new fate. Leave with him, and live. Turn away from her
destiny and her god to become a thief, a spy, an assassin—the wizard’s loyal
sword. Topple an empire, and help him reclaim his seat of power.
But Csorwe will soon learn – gods remember, and
if you live long enough, all debts come due.
My thoughts:
I listen to approximately 180 pages of this book, and then I had to give up.
My main reason for stopping is that I just had no clue what I was listening to.. I might want to try this book again later, but then I will read the physical book! I really do not recommend listening to this one!
I made it to a little bit into part two of this book. I feel like I could mostly follow the first part, at least I felt like I had some idea of what was going on! But then we started part two, and I was lost.. I couldn’t figure out if we followed the same characters. Their names are not often said and they are all very difficult, so on audio I could not keep them apart! I did have the book out from the library, so when I was home I looked at the start of this part, to see what was going on. I then noticed that this part took place 3 years after part one, which was said in one sentence (makes sense), but I could not make it out of the text. And yes they were mostly the same characters.
So after I realized that I decided that going the audiobook way with this book was not for me. As I mentioned I did have the physical book from the library, but I did not feel like physically reading it right away. Also I had two days before I had to return it, and I just didn’t think that was going to happen haha!
I feel a bit sad about DNF’ing this one, but I was just not enjoying my time listening to this. Don’t let me stop you from reading this, since the premise is really good, I just do not recommend the audiobook!
Sorry this one didn’t seem to work out for you, Evelyn! Hopefully if you try it again it will click the next time. Hope your next read is better!
I hope so too!
Thanks 🙂
I can see how this would be a hard one to listen to. I don’t think I’d be able to, either. I had a hard time following it as it was, and I was reading the book. I didn’t end up DNFing this, though I considered it from time to time. I didn’t love it, unfortunately, and like Bob said, I ended up skimming the end of it just to see where it was going. I hope you have better luck with reading it, though!
I keep hearing that quite many people struggling with this one!
But the idea of the book sounds so good, that I do want to try again, but maybe wait a bit first haha!
Oh no, I had to force myself to finished it and I didn’t enjoy it either I read an e-ARC and got really confused with what’s happening, but at least there’s a character and pronounciation guide at the beginning that I could keep coming back to. I can’t imagine how lost you are if you’re listening for an audiobook of this book
Ooh no! But good to hear I was not the only one haah! A character guide would really help!
This can definitely be a hard one to get into! I ended up enjoying it for the most part, but there were some slow parts and the time jump was definitely a bit jarring. Too bad it didn’t work for you!
I might try again later with the physical book!
Glad you did enjoy it 🙂
I skimmed most of the last 100 pages, and stopped paying close attention long before that. Not a horrible book, but a thin/weak one that made no impression on me.
Yeah I feel the same, that’s why I decided to stop and read something that was better!
Oh no! I have this on my TBR but I’ve yet to set a good review hopefully your next read is better!
I hope you will enjoy it more than me!
Thanks 🙂
