My thoughts:
I´ve been loving Adrian Tchaikovsky´s work this year, so I thought I would pick up some of his backlist. And I´m happy I did! I really enjoyed this one, not a five star read but still amazing!
I loved all the characters, they were all so interesting, amazing character development! I really enjoyed Cheerwell, she was so determined in everything she was doing, although as reader you knew she wasn’t always making the best decisions! I love that in characters!
I really enjoyed reading this book from multiple POVs, sometimes it is confusing, but for this book it was really good! We even got the POV of one of the main villains, which was interesting to see, his dedication to his empire!
I loved how he did all the different races in this world, with all the insects. You had the Wasps, the Ants, scorpions (are those insects?!) etc. I loved that all the different races had some different kind of ‘power’ (not the right word but whatever), like dragonflies can fly, spiders are very quick etc.
The plot was my least favourite part in the book, I feel like we got an idea of the plot in the beginning but we didn’t really get to that! I mean there are 9 more books or something, so I guess we have some time! I just felt like we got distracted from the main part a lot. However, for me the amazing writing definitely made up for it! it reads really easily and there was lots of humour!
I both listened and read this book, which was great! The narrator was amazing, and it meant I could continue the book when I couldn’t physically read! I just needed to continue all the time! And I’m very excited to dive into the second book ASAP!
Lots of battles, betrayals and surprises! Definitely recommend reading this book!
