So this time I decided to go with Lord of the flies! Just like The catcher in the rye, I read that someone that this book had fall vibes, so I picked it up! I only knew this book was about some boys stranded on an island.

Title: Lord of the flies.
Author: William Golding.
Format: Paperback.
Genre: Young Adult, classic.
First impressions:
These chapters are quite long haha, 30 pages or something.
Okay so I expected to read about the plane crash first, or maybe even before the plane left. But we’re immediately on the island, without any background information? Maybe that will still come? Right now it is just very confusing.
So far I’m not liking any of the characters that we’ve met. Also not a huge fan of the writing.
I will go for a save prediction, and go for 3 stars!
Final thoughts:
I ended up rating this book 2 stars!
I really didn’t like this book. The characters were horrible, and definitely did not improve throughout the book. Didn’t like the plot, didn’t make any sense.
We didn’t get any background information, which was disappointing. I mean why where this group of boys together on the island? They didn’t know each other before hand, most of them at least.
The ending was very abrupt, and quite an easy way out I would say.
To be honest I have no idea why I’m rating this book two stars and not one. I can’t think of anything that I liked about this book..
Also why were there no girls at all? I guess this goes back to my no background point!
I had to read this for high school and I hated it then. You just land in the story with no context, and the children (because they are CHILDREN) are awful. I can only imagine what would have happened if there were girls there – and based on the time it was written in, I can’t imagine they would be good things.
I understand the concept of how this relates to a portrayal of society, but it’s a very hard read, and not well executed.
Ugh they were horrible.. yeah I think it would be even worse with girls there!
Exactly!
I’ve never read this but I think I’ve heard it’s pretty dark. I’m sorry that you didnt like it. Hopefully you’ll enjoy your next book more
Yes it is quite dark!
I did, thanks!
I hated Lord of the Flies! It is one of the worst 5 books I have ever read in my life. But I know a lot of people like it which always just baffled me haha. Great impressions, and I’m sorry you didn’t like it better (because its never fun to not like books)
I’m so happy to hear that so many people hard it as well!
Luckily the book want too long haha
This is one I had to read for high school and I remember liking the concept better than the execution. Just didn’t like this one much.
The concept definitely sounds good! But indeed it could have done so much better!
I read this in high school. I liked it then, but I’m not sure how I would like it now. I may have enjoyed it a bit more because I disliked most of the books we had to read.
Hahah I think generally everyone dislikes the books they have to read for school!
Ugh I remember trying to read this one for high school…. I just couldn’t get in to it. The story was really confusing for me to follow as well. It’s so hyped in the lit world but I agree with your review! You really summed up your impressions on this well 😀 Jen
Thanks 🙂
Yeah I don’t really see the hype haha
