This meme was created by Joe from JW Martin – Storeys of stories!
The rules (they are inspired by Shanah from Bionic Book Worm’s version!):
- Read first chapter (or chapters if they are short)
- Give my ‘first impression’
- Predict my rating
- After finishing it, compare the results 🙂 (If I started a book but not finished it yet, it will be included in the next post).
The dark prophecy – Rick Riordan (audio):
(I listened to most of this before the previous post)
First impressions:
Okay I’m happy I started listening to this so quickly after finishing book 1, since it really stars where the first book ended. But since I absolutely loved book one, and am already enjoying this one, I will predict another 5 star read!
After reading:
I was almost correct! I ended up giving it 4 stars! Obviously liked it a bit less than the first book, this books felt a bit all over the place. As if the author was not sure where he wanted the story to go. Still really excited to listen to the sequel soon!

A tale of two cities – Charles Dickens:
(I read a bit of this before the previous post)
First impressions:
Jup it is time for my classic of the month! I normally have a hard time with the start of classics, and this one was not different. Mainly because there is no explanation and the language use is a bit different then what I’m used to. But based on my previous experiences with Charles Dickens and what I’ve heard about this book, I will predict 4 stars!
After reading:
I was close! 3.5 stars! This was quite a complex book, since they often go back and forth between London and Paris (the two cities (; ), but sometimes it was not really clear to me where the specific characters where. I’m really happy that I read this book though, since the first line of this book is so famous so it is nice to see where it comes from.
The earth, my butt and other big round things – Carolyn Mackler (audio):
First impressions:
I read book two before I read this book, so I already had some idea about what this would be about. It begins not as how I remembered the first book to be. So far it seems a bit more boring, maybe because I already know what will happen since I read the sequel.. Right now I would predict 3 stars.
After reading:
Really disappointed.. As I said I already knew what was happening afterwards, so take took a bit out of the story. But also I thought it was just kinda boring.. I ended up giving this book 2 stars..
The lady’s guide to petticoats and piracy – Mackenzi Lee (audio):
First impressions:
I absolutely love the gentleman’s guide! So I couldn’t wait for this book! I already loved the beginning but I so far I’m not a big fan of the narrator, but I think I can get used to it! I really like it that Percy and Monty are in this book as well! I guess I will give this book 5 stars as well!
After reading:
I ended up rating this book 4.5 stars! I really enjoyed this book, especially because you saw Felicity making mistakes, and not being the perfect person that a lot of YA main characters are! Also I really liked that the story took a different direction than that I had expected. It’s just that I liked the gentleman’s guide a little bit better.

Godsgrave – Jay Kristoff:
First impressions:
Aah I absolutely loved the beginning of this book! I struggled with the writing style in Nevernight so I was worrying I would have the same issue with this book, but I guess I was now more prepared for it! It also really helped that the beginning of this book is not as slow as the one from Nevernight. I think this book has potential to be a 5 star read!
After reading:
Yesss! I was right, I ended up giving this book 5 stars! I absolutely loved it and cannot wait for Darkdawn. Because I was already familiar with the writing style, it made getting into the story a bit easier! Also this was way more fast-paced, and I just could not stop reading!
The burning maze – Rick Riordan (audio):
First impressions:
Yess Grover!! Grover was one of my favourite characters in Percy Jackson. I really like that in all of these books Apollo and Meg are traveling with different people! It makes the books even more fun to read! I’m guessing I will give this book 4 stars.
After reading:
The first book is still my favourite! I indeed ended up giving this book 4 stars. I think it’s good that I can’t start reading the fourth book right away, maybe I will enjoy it more if there is a little bit of time in between 🙂

Spellbook of the lost of found – Moïra Fowley-Doyle:
First impressions:
Really interesting start! Dragged me in immediately! It reminds me of the vibe in the wicked deep, which I really loved 🙂 But already it seems there will be a lot of perspectives, which I’m not often a fan of. So I will predict a 4 star rating for this book!
After reading:
Nope never mind, there were only three perspectives an I did not mind them at all. 5 stars for this amazing book! As I said it had the same vibe as the Wicked deep, and it is a really good vibe haah 😉 Also the ending was really surprising to me and did not see it coming at all!
Sadie – Courtney Summers (audio):
First impressions:
I actually only started listening to this because everyone said the audiobook is amazing! And I have to say, so far I absolutely agree with them! It’s so originally done, with the podcasts and all, and that makes it really nice to listen to. Also the story is quite interesting so far. It’s not really my genre so I don’t think I will give it full marks, so I will go for 4 stars?!
After reading:
Aah I did not expect that a book of this genre could grab me so much! It was such an interesting read/audiobook. And I totally agree with all the other lovers for this audiobook. I definitely think that the best way to read this is through audiobook, it really adds something to the experience.
I did not realize I read so much during these two weeks haha, it really is because of the audiobooks! I ended up giving this book 5 stars, please let me knew if you know some similar books!
