It has been a while since I did a First impression Friday post.. I don’t think I posted one this year yet haha! I decided to read Rebecca as (modern) classic of the month (for March), and with these kind of books I always struggle to write reviews haha. So I thought writing a First impression post would be more interesting!
This book is so well loved, so I really wanted to see what I thought of it!

Title: Rebecca.
Author: Daphne Du Maurier.
Format: Paperback
Genre: Adult, fiction, mystery.
First impressions:
To be honest, I did not really know much about this book when going in. I just knew that Rebecca is not the name of the character that we are reading from, because that is what I thought for quite a while haha!
So far I’ve read 3 chapters (~25 pages). The first chapter took place later in the story (I think), and the other two chapters started to tell the story about how our main character met her husband, who was previously the husband of Rebecca. So far nothing really has happened, but it did get me intrigued to learn the story behind Rebecca, and our main character.
I’m enjoying the writing so far. For now I will predict a 3.5 star rating. Just because I have a feeling that this book will be very slow going, which might leave me feeling bored at times.
Final thoughts:
I enjoyed this book way more then that I had expected. As I said in my first impression, it was quite slow going. But the mystery behind Rebecca and her life kept me very intrigued, and I kept wanting to continue reading!
I do have to admit that I did skip over some paragraphs, since they were a bit boring in my opinion, and some (most) of them were quite unnecessary. But since I really did want to know the ending I kept continuing!
Around the 70% mark we got the answer to her death, so I was a bit worried that the last 30% would be very boring. But still more than enough happened the be kept entertained!
The plot to me was definitely the most interesting! I was really invested in any of the characters. I was mainly just interested in what had happened to Rebecca and in what everyone was hiding (or not?)!
I’m definitely interested in reading more from this author!
I ended up rating this book 3.5 stars!
Yay I’m glad this kept you interested it’s one of the classics that I hope to get to someday.
I hope you will like it if you pick it up!
Glad you liked this one! It’s very gothic and atmospheric and that’s part of the enjoyment of the read for me. 🙂
Same for me!
I definitely want to read this one!
I hope you will enjoy it!
So, I always thought the main characters was named Rebecca. So, you are not the only one! Glad to hear you were mostly entertained throughout the book, classics can be tricky like that.

Haha good to hear! Have you read it?
They really can be tricky haha!
I love Rebecca! I watched the Hitchcock movie before reading the book, and fell in love with the story. Maxim de Winter is beyond mysterious, and I loved the nameless narrator. And don’t get me started on Mrs. Danvers! lol If you like old movies and you haven’t seen this one, you should check it out. It’s one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best!
Ooh I should check out that movie!
I think for me Mrs Danvers was the biggest mystery haha! Couldn’t figure her out!
