So this time I decided to go with the golden ass by Lucius Apuleius. I never heard anything about this one before?! It is in the e-book copy that I have called ‘100 books you must read before you die’ and to be honest the title spoke to me hahah. Also going in alphabetical order this one was the next one I ’had’ to read. (I normally don’t go in alphabetical order, I just didn’t know which one to read this month!)

Title: The golden Ass.
Author: Lucius Apuleius.
Format: E-book.
Genre: Classics, mythology.
First impressions:
This book is split in 11 books, I decided to read book 1 first, which contained 7 chapters, but since the book is fairly short this was not so much.
After reading 3 chapters my main thought was ‘are these chapters connected!?’, but after reading a bit more I realized they were ahah. I was just a bit confused in the beginning.
Also this book is written in old(er) English, so it reads a bit weird, and it slowed me down quite a bit.
I have no clue what I think about this book so far, I think I will predict 3 stars!
Final thoughts:
I ended up giving this book 2 stars!
It might be because this book is old, like very old, but it was so boring.. There happened things but to me they were not very exciting. Maybe also because the writing really took me out of the story. There were some words that took me a bit to figure out what they meant, since they were writing weirdly.
There were also some chapters that randomly were about something totally else?! They confused me a lot, and tbh I kinda skipped over those since I did not understand them..
If I have to be honest, I would say, skip over this one..!
The title of this book is so great I would have picked it up too to give it a try! I have to admit… I’m reluctant to read older books and classics for the same reason you mentioned: the writing style. It’s just so hard to get in to them! Great post! Jen
There are some that are very good! This one was just wayyy too hard for me
