So, I read my first Terry Pratchett book! And I had a great time!

Book info:
Title: Mort (Discworld #4)
Author: Terry Pratchett
Page count: 257.
Release day: November 12th 1987
Genre: Adult, fantasy
Rating: 4 stars.
What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
It is known as the Discworld. It is a flat planet, supported on the backs of four elephants, who in turn stand on the back of the great turtle A’Tuin as it swims majestically through space. And it is quite possibly the funniest place in all of creation…
Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job.
After being assured that being dead was not compulsory, Mort accepted. However, he soon found that romantic longings did not mix easily with the responsibilities of being Death’s apprentice.
Before reading:
Terry Pratchett is a name you see around a lot in the fantasy side of books! His discworld series is supposed to be this fun weird epic series. Which sounds great, but it has 41 books! So it is huge, and thus a big commitment to start! And besides there are different ways to start this series. So before reading I did some research about how to read this series. I found that you could read it chronologically or thematically. Chronologically makes sense, but for thematically there are still different entry points haha!
Meeghan from @Meeghanreads told me to start with Mort, I heard the same from Daniel Greene on Youtube, so that is what I did!

My thoughts after reading:
I’m very happy I finally read something from Pratchett! And I can definitely see why people love this world! Because so far I agree!
I was afraid the world building would be very hard to understand, but that was not true. The world is quite slowly introduced, and most things are just there and didn’t really need explanation. Another thing I was afraid of was the writing, since this is a bit older sometimes the writing can be hard. The writing was exactly the opposite, it was so easy to read and it really added to the funny side of the book!
I definitely found myself laughing out loud at times! Pratchett came up with this ridiculous world, and he kinda makes fun of it himself, which I loved!
Death was such an amazing character, I cannot wait to learn more about him. He was just so funny, and again a bit ridiculous, which was just great! All the other characters were also so much fun and interesting! I loved Mort and Albert! Ysabella and Mort just had amazing conversations, laughed a lot while reading those!
The only reason I took one star is that in the middle part I struggled a little bit with focussing on the story, but the ending was great again!
I don’t know what else to say about this one, since it is quite a short read!
If you’re afraid of diving into to this world, I encourage you to just try! I really do recommend reading this one (can’t really recommend any of the others yet haah)
I will definitely continue on in this world, I will first continue with the Death series, since I’m already really enjoying this side of the world! After that I will have to see! Also continuing on in this world means I get to buy more of these beautiful clothbound books!
YAAAAAAAAY!!!! I’m so glad you liked this!!
I’m so happy I finally dived into this world!
Yay! Glad you finally got to a Pratchett book! His books can be quite funny but also insightful. 🙂
I´m so happy I did!
Awww yiiisss, I’ve been waiting for your review on this. I’ll have to pick it up!
Ooh I hope you will like it too!
I’m happy to see we’re both getting into Discworld! I can’t wait to read Mort. 🙂 I’ve read two other (non-Discworld) books by Terry Pratchett, but I’ve always wanted to read Discworld too.
I hope you enjoy them as well!
I always love books that have Death as character, they tend to offer interesting outlook and have such a personality! 😀 I’m interested to read this book when you announced it on your TBR, but I was deflated because it was book 4 in the series. I’m surprised when you mentioned this is your first Terry Pratchett book and that people recommended to start from this book, but it definitely revives my interest!
Great review!
Yeah many people recommended reading per ‘theme’, and then start with the Death series! The thems are actually explained on the website I linked! It was quite useful haha!
But you can definitely start here, I was not confused about the world at all!
Death was always my favorite character in this series, so it was a good place to start. I hope you enjoy the others just as much!
Ooh that is good to hear! I’m very excited to continue on soon!
Yaaay, and it was even Mort, my favorite! <3 I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! The Death series has made me laugh so far so far, and I think it's the second one in the series that made me laugh so stinking hard towards the end that I had to set it aside for a few minutes so I could get a grip on myself so I could continue. I haven't read as many Pratchett books as I'd like to, but I hope you end up enjoying the rest of this series, too!
Yeah I heard so many good things about Mort, that I just had to start there haha!
With the second one you mean Reaper Man? Still a bit confused about the order ahah! I do really want to continue soon!
I love the size and depth of Pratchett’s Discworld, too!
Ooh good to hear! Can’t wait to read more!
