What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
An unstoppable love between two girls—one human, one Made—both set on destroying the Iron Heart.
For too long the cruel, beautiful Automae have lorded over the kingdom of Rabu, oppressing the humans who live there. But the human revolution is on the rise, and at its heart is Ayla. Once handmaiden, now fugitive, Ayla escaped the palace of Lady Crier, the girl Ayla had planned to kill . . . but instead fell in love with. Now Ayla has pledged her allegiance to Queen Junn, whom she believes can accomplish the ultimate goal of the human rebellion: destroy the Iron Heart. Without it, the Automae will be weakened to the point of extinction.
But playing at Ayla’s memory are the powerful feelings she developed for Crier. And unbeknownst to her, Crier has also fled the palace, taking up among travelling rebels, determined to find and protect Ayla.
As their paths collide, neither are prepared for the dark secret underlying the Iron Heart.
In this stunning sequel to acclaimed author Nina Varela’s Crier’s War, the love that launched a revolution must now pave the way for a whole new era . . . and the ultimate change of heart.

My thoughts:
I’m so bumped about not really loving this.. I would probably consider Crier’s War as one of my faves of the year, or at least high on the list! But I just wasn’t caring much for this story..
In the first book I really liked the relation development between Ayla and Crier, but in this book I was kinda bored by it. I felt like not much was happening..
Storm was definitely an interesting character. But I expected way more from the relation between Ayla and Storm, it felt way too easy. I mean they haven’t seen each other in years, and they are all fine with each other within a 5 minute conversation! Like of course they really missed each other, but shouldn’t they be wondering what has happened to each other in all those years way more than that they did?!
The plot of the book was okay, but for some reason I just did not really care that much..! And I just cannot pinpoint why..! But me not caring much made it a bit hard to pick the book back up.
I still quite enjoyed the world, and the writing is really good! I would definitely pick up the next book that Nina Varela writes!
I know this is quite a short review, but I’m just having a hard time figuring out why I did not enjoy this one as much as I expected I would!
I still need to read book one! Sorry this one didn’t live up to expectations, I hate when that happens.
Book one was really good though!
I’ve been really meaning to pick up Crier’s War since it came out and I have a copy but haven’t done it yet. You think it is still worth reading even if the second book didn’t live up to expectations?
I loved the first book! Definitely still recommend reading it!
I haven’t read this one yet, but plan to eventually. I thought the first one was okay, but that’s mostly because I’ve largely aged out of YA. But I’m doing it for the sapphics.
That was worth it yes!
I feel like I´m ´outgrowing´ it as well..
