I can make this review really short. The only thing I didn’t really like was the romance part!
Good thing about me reading this ‘late’ is that the next book is already released so in theory I could continue soon! But who knows if I actually will haha?!
First of all, this cover?! It is amazing! (although I don’t like the one for the sequel in this edition..)
I really loved our main character! I love how she wanted to do everything to get magic, just to be like ‘everyone’ else! But also how she does a lot for her friends. She is definitely a strong character, but also shows flaws, we love that!
Just rated character a little bit lower, since I was not a huge fan of the love interest. Besides the love interest, I did really like all the side characters. I really feel like they all had a ‘character’ and were not just there for convenience.
The magic system was amazing! I feel like it was getting more and more complex near the end, with the combination of the history! I think it was really well done with the making the magic more and more complex, if the author would having given us all in the beginning, it would have been too much!
I loved that we slowly learned more of the history over time, this also made the cultural setting so good!
What I really liked was that this book was quite darker then I had expected! I kept wanting to continue to read, it had me intrigued from the beginning!
Really the main reason for not giving this 5 stars is the romance. I just really did not enjoy it. In the beginning it looked like romance was not going to be a big part of the book, but in the end there were so many paragraphs about the look of his lips.. I just didn’t care, and it wasn’t necessary in my opinion.
