What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best — the meanest, dirtiest, most feared crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld.
Their glory days long past, the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk – or a combination of the three. Then an ex-bandmate turns up at Clay’s door with a plea for help. His daughter Rose is trapped in a city besieged by an enemy one hundred thousand strong and hungry for blood. Rescuing Rose is the kind of mission that only the very brave or the very stupid would sign up for.
It’s time to get the band back together for one last tour across the Wyld.

My thoughts:
This book..! New favourite! Absolutely loved it!
All the characters are fantastic! I love that these characters are all older, making it more original. Our main character, Clay, keeps complaining about his back. I really liked that all the band members have their own life, lived separately from each other. And we slowly learn more about their backstories throughout the book! We read the book from Clay’s perspective, but I would say all 5 band members are main characters. Besides having interesting main characters, all the side characters are also very interesting! They all bring so much fun to the story! If you love humorous characters, you’re going to love Moog! I know I did!
The world in this book is just amazing! I have to admit, in the beginning I was a bit confused where they were on the map, but I got there! There is magic in this world, but it is not that much used or explained. But I actually liked it that way!
There are also so many magical creatures in this book. Everywhere they go there is another magical creature, some that I never heard of before! It is explained what each creature is, but often just shortly. You mainly learn about them during their fights!
The plot was so good, always something was happening, without it feeling overwhelming! I just needed to know what was going to happen, and I just could not put this down! I finished it in two days!
I really need to read book two soon, and hopefully book three releases soon, so that I don’t have to wait for that one too long. I’m pretty sure book two is from the perspective of one of the band member’s daughter, and I’m so excited!
I absolutely LOVE this book. It’s one of my favorites. And Bloody Rose is sooooo good too. There’s a line I’m it that makes me tear up every time I think about it. Did you know about the soundtrack he put together to listen to as you read this one?
Bloody rose is on my next to buy list! Can’t wait to read more of this world!
No I did not, need to look it up!
Yes, welcome to the team! Kings of the Wyld is so great, I genuinely cried at the end. Bloody Rose is also a lot of fun. Just a heads up, the perspective is from a teen girl who joins up with Bloody Rose’s group as their bard, so it’s from her POV, not Rose’s. Still fantastic!
I wonder why I waited so long with reading this, everyone seems to love it! And I’m glad I did as well 🙂
Ooh thanks! Still super excited to read it though!!
