It’s time to talk about my least favourite reads of the year! Most of these books are actually more like disappointing reads! I’m not going to list these in order since I’m unable to do that haha!
- One of Us is Next by Karen M McManus (2 stars) – I loved the first book, and her other book; Two Can Keep a Secret, so I expected to really like this one. But this sequel was so unnecessary.
- Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw (2 stars) – I loved her first book; the Wicked Deep, and I really did not enjoy this one. So that was quite a disappointment..
- Sawkill Girls by Claire LeGrand (2 stars) – I had heard so many good things about this book, so I really wanted to love it, but I guess this author is just not for me. Since I also did not really like Furyborn.

- Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young (2 stars) – I was quite excited for this Viking book, but I just really could not get into the story. I do still really want to try out Fable by her!
- Havenfall by Sara Holland (2.5 stars) – I quite enjoyed her first series, Everless! But I just did not really like this one, the writing felt so different and I did not like any of the characters…
- Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (2 stars) – I DNF’ed Fangirl, but I still wanted to try this one, since it is fantasy and almost everyone seems to love it. But I just did not care, like at all. The romance in this one is supposed to be amazing, but it was not good enough for me to like the book.
- Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth (2 stars) – Honestly I do not know why I finished this book, I really did not like it, did not really follow it. And I did like all her previous works, so that was quite disappointing.

- The King of Crows by Libba Bray (2.5 stars) – I’m so sad that this book is on this list! I loved the first 3 books, but this one felt just all over the place. All these random characters and plot points were added, and they didn’t feel very necessary!
- All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace (2 stars) – I heard so many people loving this book, so I was ready to love this as well. But once again this was just not for me.
- Iron Heart by Nina Varela (3 stars) – This was not really a bad book. I mean I gave it 3 stars! But the first book; Crier’s war, Made it to the ‘just didn’t make it to my favourites’ list. Meaning I absolutely loved that one, and this one just felt a bit flat besides that one!

I haven’t read any of these, and I’m thinking I won’t add them to my TBR. lol
Whoops haha!
Opinions can differ of course!
I was actually kind of excited for All the Stars and Teeth when it came out, but I’ve seen so many negative reviews that I might actually remove it from my TBR. It’s too bad when a book lets you down, hopefully next year you have very few disappointing reads!
I’ve seen it on so many disappointing reads lists..
Every year there’s bound to be some that disappoint. I hope that next year those are few and far between. 🙂
True, not all can be the best!
Ha ha, great concept for a post… although I see some books I loved here, which just goes to show that readers can love a lot of the same books and also have really different likes and dislikes! 🙂
I love seeing these posts, since readers opinions are so different!
I’m a little scared to read The King of Crows because so many people didn’t like it. I hope I wind up an exception.
Yeah I’ve been seeing it on a lot of disappointing reads lists..
I hope you do like it!
I can’t imagine liking Carry On if you didn’t like Fangirl because the main character in Fangirl was writing Carry On and so you really needed to like her voice for the love to carry over. I enjoyed both but what I really loved is that Rainbow Rowell created fake-fan fiction in one story and literally Carried it over to another book (two now!). I deemed this as very clever.
I agree about Winterwood. I was just so annoyed the whole time.
True, but since one is contemporary and the other fantasy, I thought I would still try!
It is definitwly very cleverly done!
Same haha!
It’s weird. I went on GoodReads this morning and of all the books I read this year, I didn’t give anything lower than 4 stars. I don’t know whether I just read a bunch of really good books or whether I’m just too nice.
Oh wow! Sounds like you had a great reading year ahah! Hard to choose your favouite then :p
It’s funny how different readers are. I enjoyed Winterwood but didn’t like Wicked Deep, haha.
Haha that is definitely interesting!
I agree that the King of Crows was disappointing. The first three books are so amazing so it’s sad that Libba Bray couldn’t deliver a great ending for the series.
Exactly! I’m glad I’m hearing this from more readers!
I have heard that All the Stars and Teeth was disappointing to other readers as well!
yeah I’ve seen it on more lists this last week!
