Let’s talk bookish is a weekly meme, created and hosted by Rukky @Eternity Books and Dani @Literary Lion, here different topics will be discussed.
This week’s topic is ‘Are big TBRs a result of abibliophobia?’, interesting topic! Learned a new word today!
Abibliophobia is the fear of running out of reading material.
Do you have abibliophobia?
Definitely not! I’m more overwhelmed by everything I still ‘have to’ read! At the moment of writing this I own 12 unread physical books (and 10 more on the way/preordered), and I already feel stressed out about reading all of these! Let alone all the books I still really want to read!
So no abibliophobia for me!
Do you add books to your TBR to keep it big, or is it a place where you keep books that seem interesting?
No I buy books because I want to read them immediately, and then end up not doing that haha!
My GoodReads TBR are just all the books I heard about and sounded slightly interesting! So that one is ever growing!
Do you have multiple TBRs?
I have my TBR of books that I own and the one that I have on GoodReads! Which I basically just explained. My physical TBR are books I’m planning on reading soonish, and my GoodReads TBR are all the books that sound slightly interesting/anticipated releases from favourite authors/sequels etc!
I also do have a 2021 TBR, of 21 books I hope to read this year!
If you don’t have a TBR, how do you find your next read?
Well I make a TBR at the beginning of the month, and I basically just follow that list until I finish it haha! And if I near the end I already pick out a next one, even though I still have one or two left on the list! I’m one of those readers who reads of a list instead of mood reads haha! (although sometimes I really feel like picking up a certain book, and I will!)

I think for me I have a fear of running out of time to read all the books I want to read! Sadly I don’t think there is a name for that When I look at my hugeee TBR, I just think that there is not enough time to read all of those books. I definitely do not have abibliophobia just because there are so many books published every year. Great post! 🙂
Same! Well maybe there is a word for it, I didn’t know abibliophobia was a word either haha!
There are so many amazing sounding books out there, that I will always have something to read!
I don’t have abibiophobia but because I can’t resist ebooks sales and I want to read everything, my digital TBR is completely out of control!
Sales are great haha!
I feel like I have a fear of not having enough reading time!
Hah. I have a very large TBR but I definitely don’t think it’s from me being scared of not having things to read. Having technology makes it so easy these days not to run out of books–I can just digitally download one or check out an ebook from my library. And if I was in a pinch I could reread a favorite. 🙂
Hahah there are just too mnay great books out there!
Nope, I definitely don’t have abibliophilia lol! Actually, I think it’s a little sad that no matter how much I read, I’m never going to get to all the amazing books out there 🙁 But I also don’t really do TBRs – I’ll just pick up whatever I feel like reading at the moment and devour that 😉
That is also a great way to read! For some reason I like to have some kind of ‘plan’ with what I’m going to read, but they often swift around!
I did not know of this word but I do and I can say with some confidence that this is not a fear of mine. I feel very fortunate so have access to libraries, cheap kindle deals and charity shops that give me access to more books than I think I could ever read in my lifetime. x
I feel like I have a fear of not having enough time to read all I want to!
And indeed libraries are such a great source! Also apps like Scribd!
I wasn’t familiar with this word so thanks for that. I wouldn’t say that I’m scared of running out of reading material, tbh, if I didn’t add another book to my pile I could probably carry on reading with my already owned books for at least 6 years! Maybe more.
I think I have more of a fear of missing something good so I’m either constantly buying books or adding them to the wishlist so that I can buy them at a later date. Unfortunately I don’t seem to do a good job of balancing my own books with review books and that’s my main problem.
Glad I’m not the only one haha!
I think I have the same fear haha! I don’t have enough time to read everything I want to!
Interesting. I assumed most people have a TBR as simply a list of books they want to read so they…remember they want to read them. I know all the time I see a book, think “that’s interesting,” and then completely forget about it unless I add it to my Goodreads TBR list or something.
Sometimes I scroll through my GoodReads want to read, and realize there are so many books on there that I forgot about haha! But then get excited about them once again!
