Let’s talk bookish is a weekly meme, created and hosted by Rukky @Eternity Books and Dani @Literary Lion, here different topics will be discussed.
This weeks topic is ‘How have your reading habits changed over time’!
A couple of years ago I only read sometimes before bed, and sometimes during the day in the weekend. And I read a lot during vacations! I always read, but not that much!
I then discovered Goodreads and Booktube, and I made reading more of a habit. I started reading before bed every day. I also started listening to audiobooks, and I always had a book with me. So my reading increased by a lot! In this time audiobooks still took me quite a while to listen to, since I listen at 1x speed, and I didn’t really know when to listen!
Then 2,5 years ago I decided to start my book blog! And then I started to read even more! Partly because at this time a had a long commute every day, so of course that really helped as well! But once I started my blog I got even more aware of all the books releasing, and I wanted to read them all! Also my audiobook listening had increased, I now mainly listen at 2x speed, and I listen all the time!
The last year, when I was living in Sweden, I also read so much! I think this was mainly since this was the first time I truly lived alone, before I lived with my family or roommates. So I would often end up talking to them or doing something with them. But when I was alone I could just read undisturbed very often haha!
I’m writing this post a bit in advance. Between me writing this post and me posting this post, I will have started a job. And I have a feeling my reading will go down haha. Obviously I will be at work 5 days a week, but I also think that after work I might be to tired to read! Especially in the beginning, when I have to get used to working again!

As for the types of books that I’ve read over the years.. It has both changed and stayed the same haha! I still read mostly fantasy! But because of booktube and book blogs I’ve been branching out more! I now also read a contemporary once in a while, I try to pick up some non-fictions sometimes, and I also discovered I really enjoy mystery/thrillers!
Before discovering the book world I wasn’t very aware of new releases. I just went to the bookstore and picked up a book that looked interesting. And then I would often read the entire series I if liked it! Now.. I read so many new releases, so I can’t binge series since sequels aren’t out yet.. And then when I read a sequel a year later, I forgot everything that happened in the previous one! Over the last couple of months I’ve been trying to read some ‘older’ books, because I feel like I’ve missed out on some, and those also sound amazing!
So I would really say that discovering this big bookish world has changed my reading habits!
I think whatever you’re doing now must be working well because you get a lot read!
I think for me my reading has changed a lot because now I read a lot more audiobooks and ebooks so I can read all over the place now. 🙂
Haha it is!
Yeah ebooks/audio is sometimes way more easy then a physical book!
once i began book blogging, my tbr list grew so much! i think overtime, ive become a lot more intentional about setting aside time to read and what books i choose to read. 🙂
Same for me!
Such a great topic! I realized my reading increased quite a lot since I started my blog as well. I I went back to look at my goodreads stats and saw: 2014 41 books, 2015 106 books, 2016 94 books, 2017 80 books, 2018 112 books, 2019 106 books, and in 2020 I am at 80. So that jump from 2014 to 2015 was huge!
I think my book tastes have changed too. I used to read a lot of fluffy books and YA for an escape when I was in college. Now that I am out I read more thrillers, horror, classics, and non-fiction. I think this is because I no longer have to read assigned books and be so analytical or active in my reading. While I am still active in my reading with annotating or isn’t with the same pressure.

Ooh wow yes 2014-2015 is a huge jump haha! And this year you’re also already pretty far!
I think when you’have’ to read a lot for school, you just want to read something easy for yourself! (Never had to read for my study haha)
so much “YES” as your reading changing with how the world is changing. 2020 has been the wildest reading year i’ve ever had (hence all those rereads) and… whew. i love this post and you!
Haha yeah I think people’s reading have definitely changed this year! We all need some comfort!
I definitely agree that being a part of the book world changes how you read. I read way more new releases now.
Definitely! Currently in trying again to read more backlist haha!
Hmm this is a very interesting topic! I didn’t think my reading habits changed that much, but looking back, I realized I read so much more now and also keep up with more new releases 😀 I also more willing to try out different genres especially if the books get great reviews from the community.
Haha yeah I feel like blogging really influences that!
I didn’t used to read that many new releases, I just picked up whatever I fancied in the bookshop. But since I’ve been blogging more the last couple of years I’ve been more aware of what new books are coming out and getting excited for new releases!
Just going to the store and buying whatever sounded good was so nice! But now I can’t go without thinking ‘Ooh I’ve heard something about this one’
