What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
The third instalment in a brilliant
fantasy series from the international bestselling author of Prince of Thorns
Nona Grey’s story reaches its shattering
conclusion in the third instalment of Book of the Ancestor.
They came against her as a child. Now they face
the woman.
The ice is advancing, the Corridor narrowing,
and the empire is under siege from the Scithrowl in the east and the Durns in
the west. Everywhere, the emperor’s armies are in retreat.
Nona faces the final challenges that must be
overcome if she is to become a full sister in the order of her choice. But it
seems unlikely that Nona and her friends will have time to earn a nun’s habit
before war is on their doorstep.
Even a warrior like Nona cannot hope to turn the
tide of war. The shiphearts offer strength that she might use to protect those
she loves, but it’s a power that corrupts. A final battle is coming in which
she will be torn between friends, unable to save them all. A battle in which
her own demons will try to unmake her. A battle in which hearts will be broken,
lovers lost, thrones burned.
Holy Sister completes the Book of the Ancestor
trilogy that began with Red Sister and Grey Sister. A ground-breaking series, it
has established Mark Lawrence as one of the most exciting new voices in modern
speculative fiction.

My thoughts:
I have to say that I liked book one the best and this one the least..
The beginning of this book I started to like more then that I liked Grey sister. We were back at the convent, again there were some classes, but it was not the main thing of the first part and it was not present anymore in the second part.
What I really did like is that we read this book in two timelines. One timeline is directly after the events of book two, and the other timeline is 3 years later. So we read the effects of actions at the same time as they are happening. Which was very interesting. I think if it was done in any other way it would have been very confusing haha!
I really enjoyed the ‘big battle’ that happened in this book, since we were already building up to that moment from book one. We already got some teasers about it in the first book!
But still I did like this one the least. And that is because in the final scenes the magic got a bit confusing. I know things were explained a bit in previous books, but everything was happening so fast that it became confusing.
Also the thing with the moon went a bit over my head in this book. I know this is vague, partly because I don’t want to spoil anything, partly because I honestly don’t really understand.
My favourite character has to be Zole, with Ara and Nona close second! But also Kettle and Apple, I liked them both so much!
Sorry you didn’t like this as much as the other books, Evelyn! At least you can cross this series off as finished though. 🙂
Haha that’s definitely true!
Not my favorite ending either – I reviewed it today. That dual timeline was part of what I didn’t like about it, along with the loss of other POVs which meant way too much happened off the page.
Totally agree!
Great review! I enjoyed this ending, but I hear where you’re coming from. And I also thought the first book was best 🙂
Good to hear!
