What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
What if damnation is
the price of true love?
Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of
the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of
the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil
war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to
discover the source of the disease that is destroying the race of warlocks.
Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love
aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of
the Dead. What they find in the Courts is a secret that may tear the Shadow
World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have
imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of
Shadowhunters before the deadly power of the parabatai curse
destroys them and everyone they love.

My thoughts (no spoilers):
You know I just love this book!
I (try to) make notes while I’m reading a book that I want to review, this are some of the points:
- I love that I can continue on so soon!
- I love Kit and Ty, I want more from them! (I think I wrote this after like 2 hours of the audiobook..)
- I just love this!
- GO Christina!
- YESSS
- Action! Everyone is so amazing!
- That ending!
So obviously I loved it! I don’t think I can explain very well why I love this so much. It’s just that the story is really worked out and everything fits together. Also there is no character that I really don’t like. Of course I like some characters better than others (KIT AND TY). Also I noticed some things linking to the red scrolls of magic (I CAN’T WAIT!).
The only ‘negative’ thing I can say about this book is that I thought the Christina-Marc-Kieran thing is a bit weird. And that after the ‘big’ battle there was still like 100 pages left? In which definitely some interesting things happened, but it did not need to be that long.
I don’t know to say more without saying too much haha. So I will just leave at this, even though it is so short..
Conclusion: Just read this series, even if you weren’t a huge fan of TMI or TID!! And I’m freaking excited for the red scrolls of magic releasing in like 2 weeks!!!
Happy reading!
Love your review! I also really enjoyed this series, probably the most of all of Cassie Clare’s series as it was my debut into the Shadowhunters world and fandom! I also really loved Queen of Air and Darkness, I can’t believe we won’t get any more of Emma and Julian! To be honest, the Christina, Mark and Kieran love thing was also a little much for me. Throughout the first two books I was always wondering who would end up with who, but I don’t think this is the best solution one could come up with. I also thought that Kit and Ty’s ending was kind of disappointing, I was kind of rooting for them to get together and that ending was just random and not justified. In general, I also think the book could have been a little shorter, as you mentioned in the end, and I also thought the first 300 pages dragged on a bit and the real action only started when Emma and Julian landed in Thule. Anyways, sorry for the long comment haha!
I read the other two first but this one is still my favourite and yes Kit and Ty’s ending could have been better! I really hope we will see more of them (together!)
And no problem I love long comments 🙂
