My thoughts:
I loved The Red Queen series when I read it, so I had such high expectations for this one. Unfortunately this really was a let-down..
I didn’t really care for any of the characters, to me they all felt quite flat. In the beginning of the book I was definitely interested in Corayne’s story, but halfway through the book he just got a bit annoying. Some of the POV’s were also quite confusing. There were some that kept coming back, so I would know those characters. But there were some that I was like ‘am I supposed to know who this is?!’, which I don’t think is a good thing..
The plot was.. boring?! This was an almost 600 page book with barely any plot.. They kept traveling from one place to another, but I could not really tell you why. This book just felt like an overly long introduction to an actual story. And this story will probably start in the sequel, but I don’t think I would pick it up.. There was some action and plot near the end, but it was kinda too late at that point.
The world-building in this book was definitely the best part, but I didn’t need a 600 page book with just world-building. Which comes back to this book just feeling like a very long introduction to a not yet existing story!
To be fair, I did really like the idea of the story. And there was something interesting going in with a marriage (staying purposefully vague here haha) that I enjoyed. But it wasn’t enough to carry the story.
Well since I thought nothing happened in the plot, this book was not very intriguing to me, nor did I enjoy it very much.
Oh my gosh, 2 stars!?!? I really need to avoid this book… I really didn’t like the Red Queen series (except the first book), if you tell me that there is no plot I guess there is no point in picking this up…
If you already did not like Red Queen, I do indeed not recommend reading this one.. haha
