What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
From the ground, we stand. From our
ship, we live. By the stars, we hope
Centuries after the last humans left Earth, the
Exodus Fleet is a living relic, a place many are from but few outsiders have
seen. Humanity has finally been accepted into the galactic community, but while
this has opened doors for many, those who have not yet left for alien cities
fear that their carefully cultivated way of life is under threat.
Tessa chose to stay home when her brother Ashby
left for the stars, but has to question that decision when her position in the
Fleet is threatened.
Kip, a reluctant young apprentice, itches for
change but doesn’t know where to find it.
Sawyer, a lost and lonely newcomer, is just
looking for a place to belong.
When a disaster rocks this already fragile
community, those Exodans who still call the Fleet their home can no longer
avoid the inescapable question:
What is the purpose of a ship that has
reached its destination?

My thoughts:
Going into this series I knew it was more character-drive than plot-driven, and normally I prefer plot-driven books. But I still read it, and absolutely loved book one! Unfortunately I do not have a review for this one since I did not have my blog yet. I than continued with reading book two, and was so disappointed, I did not really like it at all.. (review is linked above). But since I did really love book one, I decided to read book three, but unfortunately I was again disappointed..
My main problem was that I was just bored.. The first book was character driven but it still had an interesting plot, for this one I felt like there was barely any plot and we were just following these characters in their ‘daily’ life (of course some stuff did happen).
There was this event happening in the prologue, which actually was pretty interesting, but then we moved 4 years later, and barely heard anything about the consequences of that event..
Another thing was that in this book we follow 5 (?) POV’s, which was quite a lot, and in the beginning I struggled distinguishing some of them. And since there was barely any plot and the characters were not interesting me too much, I was not liking this at all.
I know this review is a bit of a mess, but I don’t really know how to explain my feelings about this book..
The only reason why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 star is because of Kip’s plot, some parts of his plot did actually interest me! I also do really like Becky Chambers writing!
Since I do like her writing I’m still going to read her coming release, To be taught if fortunate!
*I read and reviewed this before I read To be taught, if fortunate, but that review is already up and can be found here!*
I’ve located this point that states mod skin lol pro is safe to make use of and also that my account is a 100% safe and will not obtain outlawed.
It also asserts that riot themselves said that they do not mind players making use of such
programms and I am uploading this since I desire to know if it
is really safe to use.

I was reading this… and only at the end did I realise it was Becky Chambers! I just got her book To be Taugh, If Fortunate today! I adore character-driven plots and multiple POV so I’ll definitely give the first book a try (especially considering you enjoyed it). Great review!
You if you enjoy character driven stories you really should check this one out!
Thanks!
