What is it about?
Enne Salta is raised a proper lady and is going to finishing school, but then her mom went missing and she has to leave her school and reputation beyond to go looking for her. She was always warned against the dangers of the City of Sin, but she is pretty sure that that is the place where she can learn more about the whereabouts of her mom.
Her only lead is a name: Levi Glaisyer, unfortunately Levi is not the person she expected him to be. Levi has only one payment left for being done cleaning up a failed investment scam, so he does not have time to investigate a dangerous woman. Until Enne offers money.
Their search gives them several clues and lead them to casinos, cabarets and into the hands of a mafia donna. While Enne finds out the dangerous secret of her past, Levi’s enemies catch up with them, which makes everything even more difficult. To save him Enne needs to surrender herself to the city.
And thus she has to play.
My thoughts:
I absolutely loved the narrator of this book!
But actually this book was a bit too difficult for me to listen on audiobook. There are quite a couple of clans that are in some way related to each other, or not?! But there were some things about the clans that I still do not understand.
Besides that there were also some kind of magical powers or something, not really powers but I do not know how to describe it, but I do also not quite get that part of the story. I guess they kind of explained it in the beginning but it was not important in that part so I kind a forgot about it. And then it was really important at the ending but then I already forgot the explanation.
But besides that I really enjoyed the book!
This book kept being really interesting, and I kept wanting to continue the audiobook to know what was going to happen! I think that really means I enjoy the book 🙂
I really liked Levi and many of the side characters. Enne was not really my favourite character, sometimes she sounded a bit dumb. But it was not so bad that I will something from my rating!
I am really curious what will happen in the sequel! And as I said I really liked the narrator, so I have to look up if she maybe narrates more books, but I would like to listen to those 🙂
Advise:
Read the physical book instead of the audiobook.
I think people who like fantasy books that are not mainly focussed on magic and abilities! But more on the world and the characters.
