My thoughts:
So… This was disappointing.. I loved book one, and was so excited to pick this one up, but I didn’t feel much for it..
I really enjoyed the first book, I loved the small town setting, loved the mystery, thought the characters were interesting, enjoyed the relation between Wrath and Emilia. Gave it 9’s and 10’s for the ratings.
And that totally changed in this one..
I thought both Emilia and Wrath were kinda annoying, although it did enjoy the tension between them! Especially Emilia, she really thought she was in control of everything, while clearly she was not. There were not really any mentionable side characters to care about, so that didn’t help either.
I really loved the small town setting of the first book, and I was really hoping to get that again, or at least partly. But this book fully takes place in Hell I guess?! This was also a good setting, just not what I wanted. I also feel like we could have explored a bit more of all the different palaces, or at least I would have liked that. But it would not surprise me if that is something that will happen in the third book!
One of the lowest ratings is going to the plot.. Just don’t read this for the plot. In the first book there was a plot, but the book was mainly about the relation between Wrath and Emilia. This book is just about the sexual tension between them, with some random plot things sprinkled in between. I still liked reading this book, but I would have liked more of the mystery as well!
This was still a good book, just not really what I wanted from it I guess. I knew going in that this book would be mainly be about Emilia and Wrath, but I just would have liked that the plot from book one would have been less neglected.
I will still read book three once that one releases!
I realized pretty quickly in that this was fully going to be about the sexual tension between Wrath & Emilia for the majority of the book, so although I would have loved a lot of the things you talked about here–like the small town vibes, getting to see more of Hell, even just exploring the First Witch lore–I kind of cast away my expectations about twenty pages in because it got steamy REAL fast, and it was pretty obvious that Maniscalco meant to just carry on that way. Ah well, at least it was fun!
Yeah I probably should have too!
Glad you had fun while reading 🙂
Oh no, it’s always disappointing when a sequel doesn’t meet expectations! I didn’t love Kingdom of the Wicked, but I liked it enough to consider trying the sequel as I was hoping the plot would develop in interesting ways. Sounds like it may be disappointing on that front 🙁
Yeah I hate that.. Loving the first book makes you so excited to continue! So expectations are always high!
I would say so..
