What is it about?
In this book we follow a second Caraval, performed only shortly after the first one we follow. This time Donnatella is playing the game instead of Scarlett, so we follow her POV.
After the first Caraval it seems that the Dragna sisters are finally free, but this is not true, Tella made a deal with a mysterious criminal. To be free of him she has to deliver him Caraval Master Legend’s true name.
To uncover Legend’s true identity Tella has to win Caraval. During the game she crosses paths with the murderous heir to the throne. Caraval always demands bravery, cunning and sacrifice, but this time it asks for more. If Tella can’t fulfill the deal she made, she will lose everything she cares about. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.
What I thought:
HOLY CRAP I LOVE THIS BOOK!
I was actually quite surprised by this that haha, since I thought Caraval was just fine, nothing specially. I think this has to do with the fact that Tella is the main character, who is strong and confident, instead of Scarlett, who seemed weak and dependent of other people. I did, though, really love the bond between the sisters. I just loved reading from Tella’s POV, I loved her opinions and her thoughts!
Beside the main character I also quite enjoyed the male characters in this book. For example Jacks, who is just a bit extra with the s behind his name! But I also really liked how his characteristics even though he was this ‘bad’ guy he still did not act possessive in any way, which usually does happen in books.
Also Dante, the sweet villain, I love him! I think he may be my favorite character in this book!
‘Every good story needs a villain. But the best villains are the ones you secretly like’
But more about the story:
I loved that as soon as the book starts you learn that there are still a lot of secrets to reveal. I loved how we learned more of this world, how previous characters came back into this book, but also how new characters/elements are introduced.
I was afraid that after book 1 the magic system would not be so ‘special’ anymore, but it was still really interesting.
The fact that as a reader you also do not know who you can trust and who not, really says something about the writing skills of Stephanie Garber, I just loved how I distrusted everyone!
I’m so excited for the third book, Finale! I’m curious though to from whose POV this book will be? I hope it is Legend’s POV that would be so awesome! Also I’m so excited to see this cover; I think it will be amazing!
‘There were many beautiful young men in the world, but Tella believed that none of them could be trusted with something as fragile, or valuable, as a heart’
Extra point for:
- The covers <3 I love them so much!
- Tella
- Dante
- Sister bond
- The mystery
Recommend for:
EVERYONE!
Just everyone should read it, it is so freaking good!
But more specifically, if you like a magical mystery! Carnival kinda, not really though ahaha..
A good well thought of book!
