What is it about?

Our main character, Alice, and her mom spent most of Alice’s life on the road. They are always flying away from the bad luck that keeps following them. When Alice’s grandmother, the author of a book about dark fairytales, dies alone on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice learns real bad luck.

Her mom is stolen away by someone who claims to come from the world where the dark fairytales are set. The only clue Alice gets to find her mom is:

‘Stay away from the Hazel Wood’.

To save her mom Alice needs to find a way into the world of her grandmother’s

What I thought:

For some reason I did not really expect to like this book?!

But I actually really did! It was soo well written and it listened really easily. This book is really unique young adult novel, with a dark, creepy twist which I really enjoyed!

I really liked how the characters are introduced, and how they develop. I just really want to see more of Alice and Finch. Also I really loved how the tales of the hinterland wove into the real world!

Alice is really rude and arrogant in the beginning of this book, she still is at the ending but definitely less!

The reason I took one star is because I had a hard time focusing on the ending of this book.

I have no idea how the second book will go, since this book had a really good ending? But I will buy and read it anyway haha

Recommend for:

Someone in need of a fantasy novel with a dark, creepy twist taking place in our world and time. Also for people who don’t like romance, this book only contains only a little.

Come talk to me!

Do you like dark fairytales?
