What is it about? (Summary of GoodReads)
You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without
tiring.
The first lesson is to make yourself that strong.
Jude has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her,
and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly
shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were
biddable. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her,
even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.
When it becomes all too clear that someone close
to Jude means to betray her, threatening her life and the lives of everyone she
loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for
Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a faerie world.

What I thought:
I have to say I was a bit annoyed that my preorder came 10 days late 🙁 I now had to read this book in 2 days, because I was going on a school trip and wouldn’t read and obviously I had to read this as soon as I got it! But I managed, and honestly it is a quite easy to read book. The writing does make you able to read fast. But since I read this so quickly, and was then away for 6 days, I hope my thoughts are still accurate..
To be honest, I liked book one better haha. I think that is mainly because I did not have really high expectations for book one, and then I ended up really loving it. And because of that my expectations for this one were really high. And it just did not meet them. Not that this was a bad book. It was still really good. But I expected that.
I loved the politics. I love the world Holly Black has built. All the characters are really interesting and so complex, I love it!
I think my main problem with this book was that the beginning was a bit boring, it took a little while for the real story to start.
I feel like it now sounds as if I did not like it, that’s not true. I just liked book one better. But I still loved the characters, the world and the politics! And I cannot wait for book 3!
Come talk to me!
What did you think of this book?
I’m picking this one up soon so I’ve only briefly read this but 5 stars is very encouraging.Lynn 😀
Have fun! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I loved this book so much. I thought the beginning was all set-up, and if you really pay attention, Black does this thing where she hints at what is going to happen (but I always read it and I’m like, blah blah, exposition, blah blah), and then the ending kills me. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I mean, seriously, you’d think I’d learn by now. Anyway, I’m glad you liked it!!
Yess! You’re right she is amazing! To be honest this is the only series I’ve read from her that she wrote on her own. I’m really eager to read her other books!
