What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
With a galaxy on the brink of war and
loyalties divided, the friendship of four Quatra Fleet cadets will be tested as
their greatest enemy closes in.
Arrested for espionage, Orelia’s future is
looking bleak . . . until the Quatrans make her a surprising offer that could
save her life — and the lives of everyone in the galaxy. Reeling from a
betrayal, Arran finds comfort in a sympathetic boy from Loos, someone who
understands how hard it can be to fit in. But is it enough for Arran to forget
his heartbreak? Meanwhile, Cormak’s position at the Academy is in jeopardy when
someone discovers his own treasonous secret, putting everything he’s fought for
in peril. And Vesper is on the brink of becoming the superstar officer she
always dreamed she’d be . . . until she uncovers a conspiracy that shakes her
faith in the Quatra Fleet to its core.
As secret machinations come to light, these
cadets will be forced to overcome their differences and band together to
restore peace to their worlds.

My thoughts:
I just wrote my review for undying, which is not relevant to this one at all. But I feel like the idea of both reviews will be very similar. I was very surprised by book one, but book two didn’t really live up to it?! So now I feel like I’m writing two almost the same reviews XD
I was very very pleasantly surprised by book one. For some reason I did not really have expectations for that one, but it was very good! So I got quite excited for this one, but it just was not as good!
What I really loved in the first book was the school setting, it is just one of my favourite thing in books! We followed these four student going to classes, but also competing together against other groups, I loved it!
But after the events at the end of book one, the school setting kinda disappeared in this book. Like they were still at school, but it was barely mentioned. Also because of these events the group was kinda split up, which was sad, because I loved them together!
I enjoyed reading this book, the characters were still very interesting, just as their relations. I just think that the ‘action’ was less exciting to me. It was definitely there, but it was a bit too predictable to me.
I will definitely recommend this series, if you want to read an ‘easy’ science-fiction series. And especially the first one if you’re into school settings!
I will also definitely read Kass Morgan again in the future!
Book one sounds like something I’d really like!! I’m all for SF with teenage angst. Is there a romance element to this? Lovely review as always Jen
Yes there is! I’m normally not a fan, but I didn’t mind it too much here. Maybe becasue I expected there to be one, since they are teenagers at school haha!
