My thoughts:
This was a 5 star prediction for me, but I was still surprised by how much I loved this! My plan was to switch between this book and Rhythm of War, but I just could not stop reading this one, so Rhythm of War was moved to the side haha!
This book is written from 5 POV’s, of which 2, Jovis and Lin, are the main ones. With every POV change I was sad that a certain POV was over, but then I saw who the next chapter was from and became very excited to read that chapter. This literary happened EVERY chapter, which made me fly through the book!
In this book there is magic based on Bone Shards, these bone shard are taken from the ‘common’ folk, when they are children. This magic is only performed by the emperor, and he is teaching this magic to his daughter, Lin, and his foster son, Bayan. With this magic constructs can be build, which are basically animals with certain commands in them, like ‘follow orders from X’ etc. When reading from Lin’s perspective we learn about this magic. But then we also follow Jovis, who is a smuggler, and is saving children from their Bone Shard to be taken. He ends up joining the Shardless Few, who are a group of people fighting against the taking of the bone shards. Ramani is part of this group as well, and we see her fight against the governor of a certain Island. Phalue is the daughter of this governor, and within this story she sees that the way her father is ruling is not good for the people, so she decides to improve the ruling system. At least on that Island!
And then lastly we follow Sand, who is living on a distant isle, without any memories, but they are slowly getting back. And her story mainly gives some interesting idea about will happen in the sequel!
I absolutely loved Mephi! He was so adorable, he was the best!
As I mentioned I loved every perspective, they all gave such interesting views on the story! I loved learning about this world and the magic! Also things happened at the end which makes me very excited for the sequel, although that will still take a while!
Almost every chapter ended on a small cliffhanger, which made me very excited to read another chapter from that POV. But since that happened to all the characters, I was intrigued to continue with all POVs haha!
There were quite some plot twists, that had me sitting there with my mouth open! To be fair there were also some ‘twists’ that felt quite obvious, but only from a couple of chapters earlier!
It was not only the plot and the characters that grabbed me from the start, but also the writing, it was amazing!
Honestly this book was amazing, I couldn’t stop reading, and I wish everyone would read this! The sequel cannot come quick enough!
Brilliant review! I agree so much about how eager you are to read all the different POV’s and Mephi was just so cute. Can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel
Thanks 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it as well!

I am glad you enjoyed it so much! The different POVs and plot-points sound very interesting… I kept pushing this down my TBR because I thought it would be slow and I am a slow reader already, so I didn’t want to put myself in a slump… but this review makes it sounds like a fast-paced book and now I’m wondering if I should give it a chance sooner.
I couldn’t stop reading! Definitely wouldn’t call it slow!
I haven’t read this yet but it sounds amazing!
