My thoughts (Hopefully without spoilers for book one, but watch out!):
I loved this book! That’s it, that the review! Just pick up this series 🙂
I really loved reading the first book earlier, so obviously I was really excited about this release, and picked it up immediately after release. I was a little bit afraid this book would suffer from ‘middle-book syndrome’ but it definitely did not and was just as good as the first book!
I still really loved all the characters, we follow the same POV’s from the first book. Some are in a different locations compared to the first book, and some of these characters meet for the first time in this one. Still absolutely loved Mephi, 100% my favourite character!
This book starts immediately after the ending of the first book. Lin and Jovis are in the palace. Here we follow Lin who is trying to fix the Empire, and people’s trust in the Empire after everything her father has done. While Jovis is trying to figure out where his loyalties lie! And together they are also figuring out the magic they both have, and save the Empire from the Alanga, who have supposedly returned.
Then we also follow Phalue and Ranami, who are running one of the islands. We mainly follow them when it has something to do with Lin’s storyline though. But we see them trying to organize the island, also after a ruler switch. We see them handle the rebels on their island.
Then the last story line we follow is Nisong, which was interesting, but confused me a bit in the beginning. As in how it related to the rest. I feel like I cannot say more about her storyline without spoilers.
I love this world and the magic system, they are probably my favourite parts of this book.
I read the first half of the book in one day. And would probably read the second half the next day if I wouldn’t have to work haha!
I absolutely cannot wait for the last book the release coming September. Hopefully it will not be any later than that!
Very much enjoyed this as well! I love the dynamic between Lin and Jovis!
Right?! Can’t wait for book three, although I just saw it is pushed back to 2023!
Can’t wait to read this book
Lovely review!!!
Thanks 🙂
