My thoughts:
I´m not really sure what I think about this book. The plot was interesting, the characters were just fine, I really struggled with the writing, and I wanted more dragons.
I love the world that was being build in this book. The culture, the religion and even the economy was interesting! I kinda wanted to own the physical book since there is a map, which I was just not able to view on my ereader, way too small. But that, of course, was not a fault of the book. I just really like to see where the characters are going.
I quite liked the cast of characters. Especially because you would ‘expect’ most characters on a ship to be male. But there was such a diverse cast of characters on this ship. And there were the same expectations for male and female people on the ship!
I did struggle a bit with character names, some of them were a bit to similar, and I got confused haah!
Joron, the main character was interesting. I really enjoyed seeing his character develop throughout the book. I really liked how he learned different things from different characters, especially characters who were ‘below’ him in rank!
I enjoyed the plot, but I don´t really know what to say about it?! I liked that we didn’t know who to trust, I also liked that we got to see quite a lot of the world. I do hope that we will be getting more dragons in the sequel, since they weren’t very present for a book cover with a huge dragon on it?!
My main ‘problem’ with this book was the writing. I did have to reread many sentences because I didn’t get them the first time around. I first thought this was on me, since English is not my mother tongue. But after reading some reviews, I saw that more people struggle with the writing, so maybe it is not me?! Idk
I will definitely read the sequel, since I’m very curious to were the rest of the story will go!
Hope you enjoy the sequel more. I did love this and I wonder whether the struggle with the language had anything to do with all the ‘made up’ words in relation to sailing and ships?
Lynn 😀
I’m hoping to read it soon!
Mm yeah that probably doesnt help either!
