My thoughts:
“Books, she has found, are a way to live a thousand lives – or to find strength in a very long one.”
This book! It was amazing! I fell in love with it from page one!
Before going into this one, you must be aware that this is very different from her other works! It is way slower, which fitted the story very well. It is also definitely not as fantastical as her other works!
The writing was amazing, but honestly I expected nothing less from VE Schwab! I´ve loved her writing in all her books, especially her adult books! There were so many quotes in this one that just got to me! Like this one:
“..It is sad, of course, to forget.
But it is a lonely thing, to be forgotten.
To remember when no one else does.”
I just had to put the book down for a second after reading this. It just made me realize that we all really have to make something of our lives. Because otherwise you’re just flowing through it and then you will be forgotten. Made me kinda realize what a boring and uneventful life I have.. And that I should try more to do more things I like, and more things that could have an influence on lives! Which leads to this quote:
“What is a person, if not for the marks they leave behind?”
The characters were amazing! I loved both Addie and Henry . Addie just really did her best to make something of her endless life, even though everyone forgets about her. And I could relate so much to Henry, he just really wants to be loved. And that really got to me as well!
This book is written in a dual timeline, and she did that so well! We went back and forth between the current time and all the 300 years Addie has already lived. It was so interesting to see how the events in Addie’s past life influences how she was doing things in the current time line!
I ended up giving this book 4.5 stars instead of 5 stars, even though I loved it, because there were some parts in the middle that were a little bit too slow and less interesting. So I read those parts a bit faster to get to the more interesting parts again! But the rest of the book was amazing!
“Stories are a way to preserve one’s self. To be remembered. And to forget.”
I just added this book to my the last week and now I am even more excited to read it! I haven’t ready anything by V.E Schwab yet so that’s going the be exciting as well :)) I am really glad you liked it!
Ooh she is one of my faves! I hope you will love this one! and her other works as well!
I loved it as well, especially that brilliant ending, but I keep thinking that Luc should’ve been way more evil. I mean, he’s sort of the devil. I think he could’ve tried harder to make Addie’s life hell. He had 300 years, after all 😀
Yeah he could have been more evil! But this also was an interesting twist!
So glad you loved it! Such a gorgeous, charming book! It blew me away 🙂
Glad you did as well! It blew me away as well!
