After rereading and really enjoying The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa, I just had to pick up the follow up series; The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten!
I bought the boxset containing the three books from the trilogy but also a short story collection.
This trilogy follows Ethan Chase, Megan Chase’s brother, as he is trying to live a normal life while he is able to see fey. And of course this does not really go according to plan!
Julie Kagawa’s more recent work is definitely better written then these books, but I absolutely enjoyed them! I was flying through them, and I did not want to put them down!
Is this the best written series: No
Did I have a great time reading them: Absolutely!

The Iron Legends (short story collection) – 3 stars!
I started with reading the short story collection, since these stories took place in between the books of the first trilogy.
In general I’m not really a big fan of short stories, and this time was no difference. I felt very indifferent about any of these stories. They were okay but to me they did not really add much to the overall story.
If you ask me, you could definitely skip these, but if you like short stories, they are fun!

The Lost Prince – 4 stars!
The first book in the actual trilogy! This book grabbed me from the first page!
I really liked that we read this trilogy from a male perspective. We don’t have that many YA fantasies that have that, especially books releasing in this time!
Ethan Chase is this a bit grumpy, ‘stay away from me’ character, but he is actually quite sweet! Kenzie is also a great character, convincing Ethan to not be so stupid!
I really liked that we saw loads of characters from the previous series, without them taking over the story. This really stays Ethan and Kenzie’s story! You should have seen me smiling once Grimalkin entered the story, I think he will forever stay one of my favourite characters of this series!
Yes, lots of this book is really predictable, but I loved my time reading this in between some more heavy fantasies!
Plotwise, I don’t want to say too much, since of course this is the second series in this world. Also I feel like most of it is quite obvious, and you should just go ahead and read these books!

The Iron Traitor – 4 stars! & The Iron Warrior – 3.5 stars!
Okay so I totally forgot to write something about the Iron Traitor after I finished it.. So now I don’t exactly know what happened in The Iron Traitor and what in the Iron Warrior, so I will just be combining the two!
I still really enjoyed the characters, mainly the side characters though! I think Grimalkin and Puck will be forever be my favourites! (Which makes me really excited about The Iron Raven, since that one follows Puck!). Another small side character that I really like is Razor!
Ethan is a great character, does everything for his friends and family, but sometimes it felt a bit too much.

These books are just so easy to fly through! Both because they are action-packed and the writing is quite easy, but also because they feel a bit simple (?). But I honestly didn’t mind, sometimes it is nice to read a more simple book in between! And I absolutely love the writing.
There were definitely parts were Kagawa shocked me, I didn’t expect her to do certain things, but she did!
Not saying much about the plot, but obviously these are books 6 and 7 haha!
I will definitely read Puck’s duology at some point, but I will be waiting for a bit so that book two is released!
I haven’t read this series, but I do enjoy Kagawa’s books. I’ll have to check these out. Nice reviews! 🙂
I hope you will enjoy them!
