My thoughts:
I was very excited for this book, since I really loved listening to Sadie. Unfortunately this one was a bit of a let-down.. I was so surprised by how much I loved Sadie, that my expectations were very high, and this one was just not as ‘special’ to me.
I really did not care for the characters, they felt kinda bland to me, also the plot was very gripping. I knew what we were trying to figure out, but I just didn’t care for it..
This book is written in two time lines. The present one is being told from Lo’s perspective, while the past time is being told from her sister Bea’s perspective. It took me quite a while to keep these characters and times separate. This is mainly because both of them are recalling the same events. They are also both interacting with this ‘Unity Project’ group, which ended up in both timelines sounding a bit the same. I think it took until the half way point, for the timelines to be really separate!
So we follow Lo trying to figure out why her sister Bea joined the ‘Unity Project’ group and left her. But it took so long for the ‘secrets’ of this group to come into the story.. Meaning the beginning of this book is very slow. While in the second half of the book quite a bit is happening.
Since the beginning of the plot was so slow I was getting quite bored by the book. And since I also wasn’t really caring for both the characters, I wasn’t enjoying the story overall.. Which meant the plot twists and reveals in the end were not very surprising. I don’t mean the I saw them coming, my reaction was just like ‘oh okay, that’s it then’, and that was just it. While I prefer the be jaw-dropping shocked!
I’m very sad about not loving this one since, as I mentioned, I really loved Sadie!
Sorry this one didn’t work out, Evelyn! Hope that your next read is better!
Thanks 🙂
I totally agree that this one didn’t feel as special as Sadie! I’ve recommended Sadie to so many people but I haven’t recommended The Project to anyone. That being said, I did really like the plot. The characters are pretty bland like you said but the plot kind of made up for some of that to me. Great review!
I would still recommend Sadie haha!
The plot eas definitely the better prt of this book!
Sorry this didn’t work for you! I was curious about it but may pass on it. I loved Sadie also though!
You might like it better then me! But it has been getting quite some mixed reviews!
That’s a bummer, especially since you enjoyed Sadie so much! I always hate when something like that happens. Hopefully your next read is better!
Exactly! Thanks 🙂
I’m sorry this didn’t work for you… I heard so many different reviews about The Project. I guess this one is either you love it or you don’t. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion!
Yeah I’ve seen some mixed things as well!
I think you’re right!
This is exactly how I felt! I went in with so many expectations and it let me down hard, ha. Great review!
Yeah unfortunately 🙁
Thanks!
