I always love making lists! So I’m participating in Top 5 Saturday which is organised by Mandy @Devouring Books.
This week’s topic is retellings! I mostly enjoy reading retellings, but sometimes I feel like it can make a book predictable. But I love it when the author makes an interesting twist on the original story! I also feel like sometimes the word retelling is really loosely used, since sometimes I can’t really see the original story in the book at all (which of course can be a problem coming from me) or it is a retelling of a story that I’ve never heard of before haha!
But here are 5 retellings that I really want to read!

- Alice by Christina Henry – Alice in wonderland retelling! (I honestly want to read all of Henry’s retellings)
- Spin the dawn by Elizabeth Lim – Mulan retelling! (I think at least)
- Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie Mclemore – Swan lake retelling! (I don’t think I’ve ever read a swan lake retelling, so this should be good!
- Scavenge the stars by Tara Sim – The count of monte Christo retelling! (I’m so excited to read this one!)
- Anna K by Jenny Lee – Anna Karenina retelling (this sounds like so much fun!)

These are all on my TBR again!! But I’m especially excited to read Blanca & Roja and Spin The Dawn!! I can’t wait to read those two. I have all of Christina Henry’s retellings on my list too and can’t decide which to go for first. I’m kind of leaning towards The Girl In Red though. I hope you love all of these.
Tjose sound so good!
The girl in red is the only one I’ve read, and I really loved it!
Great list, I really enjoyed Spin the Dawn! I also want to read Scavenge the Stars, I keep forgetting I have that one in my TBR!
I can’t wait to read Spin the dawn and Scavenge the stars! both sound so good!
CRAP! You know… Scavenge the Stars should have been on my list. Although I don’t know the first thing about the Count of Monte Crisco (sp?- is that the sandwich?) I did absolutely love this book. I also loved STD and can’t wait to read the sequel but I’m not sure if that is a retelling or if they just compared it to a cross between Mulan Rouge and Project Runway? I have to check.
Great list!
Glad to hear you oved it!
Yeah that is what I doubted about as well! Stille xcited to read it though!
Asklfhskgs Scavenge the Stars is a Count of Monte Cristo retelling?? I’m so excited to read it!!! Thanks for this cool list, Evelyn! (Retellings are the best)
It is! I don’t know how close it is to the original story haha! I hope to read Scavange the stars soon!
