Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah @the Bionic Bookworm! You can find more information here!
This weeks topic is books that exceeded my expectations:

- An ember in the ashes by Sabaa Tahir – This is a very recent read of mine, and I expected to give this a 3/4 star rating, but I absolutely loved it and I gave it a 5 star rating!
- The unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren –Another recent read! I read this for my GoodReads Award challenge, and I definitely did not expect to love this one as much as I did!
- Middlegame by Seanan McGuire – I read this because of Booksandlala, since she absolutely loves this one, but normally we do not have the same reading taste. So I did not have too high expectations, but I ended up absolutely loving this!
- Spellbook of the lost and found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle – Magical realism can be a hit or miss for me, so I try not to have too high expectations for this genre, but I absolutely loved this one!
- The wicked deep by Shea Ernshaw – Basically the same story!

I liked An Ember in the Ashes more than I thought I would too! Great list.
Good to hear!
Middlegame and The Wicked Deep are both on my TBR, so I’m really glad to hear that you enjoyed them both so much! I look forward to picking them up myself.
I hope you will and end up loving them both!
A recent read that exceeded my expectations – Red, White & Royal Blue. And I had pretty huge expectations to begin with.
Ooh that is good to hear!
I’ve not read any off your list this week although I do have a couple on my wishlist.
Lynn 😀
I hope you will enjoy them if you pick them up!
The Wicked Deep exceeded my expectations, too.
It was so good!
I loved Spellbook of the Lost and Found too! It walked exactly the line between “is this magical or is this a metaphor” I want magical realism book to walk and it was such a beautiful experience.
Great list!
That’s such a good description! I lvoed that too!
