Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah @the Bionic Bookworm! You can find more information here!
This weeks topic is 5 reasons to give a book 5 stars. I think I’m pretty easy with giving 5 stars haha.
My main reason for giving a book 5 stars is if the book just grabs my attention from the start. And I just cannot put the book down. This is mainly a combination of reasons I guess. So reasons why I can’t put a book down are:
- There has to be enough happening to keep my attention.
- Writing style is very important to me, and often one of the biggest reasons why I can’t put a book down.
- I’m more of a plot reader than character, but I shouldn’t hate the characters. I don’t have to love a character to love the book. But I don’t like being annoyed by the main character.
- It has the be interesting. I love fantasy so much since I love to learn more about all these different worlds! I love world building!

These are only 4 points haah. It is hard to explain why I would love a certain book, I also really struggle with writing reviews for these books haha!
I’m so much of a character reader that I can overlook a lot of plot and world building stuff if I love the characters LOL. I love that you love plot!
So interesting that we all feel different about that!
These are all great reasons for giving a book five stars! I find that I’m a little bit of a plot/character mix. I don’t want too much of either. Call me picky. xD
Hahah I might be bit of both as well!
Im all about the characters really – in fact the plot can be almost none existent if I like the people in the book well enough. Isn’t it funny how we’re all so very different.
Lynn 😀
Yes it is! I’m really more of the opposite haha!
I’m actually the opposite and love characters more than plot.. but I also understand what you mean… the book definitely needs to be engaging and keep my attention ..
Great points Evelyn !!!
Thanks!
It’s definitely tough explaining why we rate books the way we do. I think yours all make sense.
Haha thanks, was hard though!
Great list! I totally agree about the characters- I prefer plot-driven books, but if I don’t care/don’t like the characters, then I certainly will enjoy the book less because I need to care what happens next.
Yesss!
