What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
Emika Chen barely made it out of the Warcross Championships
alive. Now that she knows the truth behind Hideo’s new NeuroLink algorithm, she
can no longer trust the one person she’s always looked up to, who she once
thought was on her side.
Determined to put a stop to Hideo’s grim plans,
Emika and the Phoenix Riders band together, only to find a new threat lurking
on the neon-lit streets of Tokyo. Someone’s put a bounty on Emika’s head, and
her sole chance for survival lies with Zero and the Blackcoats, his ruthless
crew. But Emika soon learns that Zero isn’t all that he seems–and his
protection comes at a price.
Caught in a web of betrayal, with the future of
free will at risk, just how far will Emika go to take down the man she loves?

My thoughts:
I really loved being back in this world! It is so original and well described, and especially on audio it is really easy to see it all in front of you!
I really love the audiobooks for this series! As I just said it is really easy to imagine the world, and it is so easy to listen to. To narrator’s voice is really good and since there is so much action it is really hard to put the book back down!
I really like that the characters are not too perfect, they make some not too great decisions, are a bit rude at times, but that makes them more realistic. The main characters also undergo great character development throughout the series!
There are so many twists and turns in this book, I LOVED it! Most of them I did not see coming, which makes it even better. Most of the things happening in this book I would not have guessed would happen only after reading book one! But it all makes so much sense now! The story is just really well worked out, in such a way that it is hard to see the twists coming, but they are not unrealistic, as in they do make sense!
The reason for me taking a star is that I missed the warcross games, unfortunately those did not happen in this one, and I really loved those in book one!
Conclusion, I loved the ending to this duology, it is a well written and action packed science-fiction book. I definitely recommend this If you want to read some ‘easier’ science-fiction!
I will definitely read future releases of Marie Lu, I’m honestly not that interested in her older releases though!
I still haven’t read this author although I’m sure I own at least one book that has been sat forever gathering dust. I’ll have to look this series up – of course I would already be behind but….Lynn 😀
I haven’t tried her other series but I really liked this one 🙂
I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for books about video games/gamers! I enjoyed the first book but still need to get to this one. Glad to hear it was a good ending 🙂
I hope you enjoy it when you get to it ☺️
