For the last couple of years I made it a goal to read one classic every month! Since I do really like reading classics, but I just give other books priority. So by making it a yearly goal I hoped to read more classics! And for the last 2 years I have been quite successful, with even reading more than 12 a year. This year though.. It is not going great haha! We’re in month 10 and I’ve read 6. Not too bad, but in this number I counted rereading the Anne of Green Gables graphic novel.. And most of the others were quite short ones, just so that I would have a classic read.. And that was not really the point of this goal haha!
I’m not going to force myself to read 6 more classics this year, since I do want to enjoy myself reading them. And I’m afraid I won’t if I force myself to read them!
But thinking about this goal made me want to make a list of the Top Five classics I still want to read! These might be the next five that I read! In no particular order:

- The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky (This is one of the favourites of a good friend of mine, so I’m curious!
- Winnie the Pooh by AA Milne (I’m just very curious to this one!)
- The Color Purple by Alice Walker
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
- Watership Down by Richard Adams

I’m adding an extra book, not really sure if it is considered a classic. But I feel kinda bad for not having read this one, since I’m Dutch:
The Diary of a Young Girl – Anne Frank
If I would pick this up, I would probably read it in Dutch, since that is the original language. I’m not a fan of reading in Dutch, but I feel a bit weird reading this in English haha!
(I have no idea why I have not read this, many people around me had to read this in High School?!)
Great list! I haven’t read any of these but I did have to watch the movie to Watership Down in high school which left me so upset that I blocked most of it out LOL.
Yeah I’ve heard it is quite sad haha!
I love Watership Down so much! I started watching the TV show when I was younger and read the book later and it’s still one of my favourite classics! I hope you enjoy it when you pick it up <3
I need to read it soon!
The Winnie-the-Pooh books are so great! I love the poem collections too — I used to read them with my kids all the time when they were little. I read Brave New World ages ago, then re-read it more recently, and was pretty blown away by how much of our current world he’s managed to predict in some ways. I do love reading classics, but do it kind of spur-of-the-moment for the most part. Enjoy!
I want it to be more spur-of-the-moment for me as well!
Ooh that is intersting, defintiely want to check out Brave New World now!
I have only read The diary of Anne Frank but I do want to read The Color Purple!
I hope we will both like it!
I read Watership Down a really really long time ago, it’s one I want to reread as I can’t remember much about it, but I loved watching the TV shows as a child.
I really want to read it and then watch it!
Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a really god author, I have read a few of his works and was really pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed them.
I have quite a few classics I want to read, at the top of my list is The Color Purple, like you, and Frankenstein. I have a 50 book list and I try to read a few off of there each year.

For some reason I’m a bit afraid of his writing, idk why haha!
Oog Frankenstein is good! And it is the right season to read it haha!
I can highly recommend Winnie-the-Pooh, and The House at Pooh Corner. They’re both lovely!
Ooh glad you love them! I need to buy a beautiful edition ahha!
Brave New World is one of my favorite classics. I hope you enjoy it! ❤
Ooh that is good to hear! I hope so too haha!
I really want to try Winnie the Pooh as well after seeing the Watership Down film, however … I don’t want to read that. Don’t need that kinda sadness in my life.
Ooh, maybe I should mentally prepare myself before rading Watership Down!
