So this series consists of The Iron Fey series, having four books (The Iron King, The Iron Daughter, The Iron Queen and The Iron Knight). Then The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten, with three books (The Lost Prince, The Iron Traitor, The Iron Warrior). And recently the first book in The Iron Fey: Evenfall (The Iron Raven) has released!
Since I read the first The Iron Fey years and years ago, like 8 or 9 years ago, I’ve read some other works by Julie Kagawa, Talon series and Shadow of the Fox, and really loved both! So I would consider Kagawa one of my favourite authors! So since The Iron Raven released earlier this year I’ve been feeling the need to reread this series, and continue with it! I’ve been wanting to do this since the start of this year, so obviously I finally managed to do this halfway through May!
I own the first four books in the series, since I read them, but wasn’t allowing myself to buy the next books in the series, before I started my reread to confirm I actually still enjoy the series! Just to give you an impression, I was halfway through my reread of book one, when I ordered The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten box set!
The Iron King – 4.5 stars!
I was just staring at my shelves one day and decided it was time to finally time to reread The Iron King, definitely one of my better decisions this year! I flew through it, absolutely loved it again, and couldn’t stop thinking about it!
I was surprised by how much I still remembered from this book, but also how often it still surprised me! I was a bit afraid that this book would feel quite old, since it was released in 2010, but this book really went through those 10 years well! Yes there were some cliches, with some love triangles and such, but that was to be expected, and I honestly didn’t think it was too bad in this one!
I did not remember that this book was quite gruesome at times! Which I actually really liked since that made the book feel less typical YA for me!
As I mentioned I was half way through this one when I ordered the boxset of the second series in this world, since I was convinced I would enjoy my reread of the rest of the series just as much!
Rereading this really confirmed Kagawa as being a favourite author of mine!
The Iron Daughter – 4 stars!
After loving my reread of The Iron King I just needed to read this one shortly after haha! And once again, I loved my reread! Although I did like it a little bit less then book one, probably because the surprise of me loving it was not there anymore haha! I kinda expected to really enjoy this one!
Although for this book I was more surprised by what happened, I still remembered parts, but way less compared to book one. There is this one particular scene I remember and I thought it would happen in book one, but it still hasn’t happened haha. I’m kinda doubting myself if it was even in this series, but I’m curious to find out!
I was actually reading parts with my mouth open, being shocked haha! And as I mentioned for book one, parts were definitely more gruesome then I remembered haha!
I don’t know what else to say about this book without spoilers. However I’m very excited to reread book three soon!
The Iron Queen – 4 stars!
Honestly I do not really know what to say about these rereads anymore! Still really enjoying it, and I’m very excited to move onto book four!
The Iron Knight – 3 stars!
Okay so this is when I can say some more again!
I totally forgot this book was written from Ash’s POV?! Idk how I managed that haah! I liked the change of POV, since I do think in this part of the story following Ash is more interesting than Megan. But I was really disliking the (multiple) love triangles that were taking place in this book, especially in the beginning.
Also we finally got the scene I was waiting for!
I do think I now know why I didn’t necessarily continue with this series. This was not a bad book. But I definitely liked it less than the previous books! This book does continue from the first three books, but it does kinda feel like a separate story. Since we’re now mainly following Ash, and Meghan only really appears at the end of the book!
There were some chapters at the end of the book that went on for a bit too long, since after a bit I felt like as a reader we got the point.
But even though I liked this one less I will still move onto the next series since I’m very curious to Ethan’s story!
