What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
By scheming and
theft, the Thief of Eddis has become King of Attolia. Eugenides wanted the
queen, not the crown, but he finds himself trapped in a web of his own making.
Then he drags a naive young guard into the
center of the political maelstrom. Poor Costis knows he is the victim of the
king’s caprice, but his contempt for Eugenides slowly turns to grudging
respect. Though struggling against his fate, the newly crowned king is much
more than he appears. Soon the corrupt Attolian court will learn that its
subtle and dangerous intrigue is no match for Eugenides.

My thoughts:
I’m so happy to say that I liked this one better then book one and two, I was thinking about stopping with this series for now. But since I quite liked this one I will definitely continue with this buddy read.
I think the addition of a new character, Costis, made this book for me! I really like his character, he is so sweet and confused all the time, but he does all for his king. I’m still really liking Eugenides, he is precious. Bit stupid at times, but that’s why I like him haha. Attolia was a bit boring though, she was a really strong character in the previous book, but you did not see much of that strongness in this one.
Also I started to like the politics in this book more, and I think that is because in this one it was easier to understand who is who, and what they want. And of course there is betrayal, as expected haha, but I liked that.
As mentioned before I’m not a fan of really long chapters, and this book keeps jumping between really short and really long chapters, and I like that even less. For some reason when I read long chapters I cannot focus for so long, while if the chapter would be split up I would be more able to focus!
The buddy read of book 4 has already happened by the time this goes up, I’m not sure if I will review that one, since I feel like I’m repeating myself for each of these reviews haha.
Come talk to me!
What do you think of long chapters?
