What is it about?

Grace June is about to move in with her uncle, Rusty, since he is her only living relative. She is not too happy about this because he has not spoken to her in the past two years since her father died. Rusty lives in New Harbor and Grace spent almost all her summers there, so she is already familiar with the neighbourhood and the people. New Harbor use to be a happy place for her, now it just reminds her of the things she has lost. While being here she gets the opportunity to find out what happened that one night two years back, but she is not sure if she wants to know.

What I thought:

So this book is totally out of my comfort zone, but sometimes it is good to try something different.

What I really liked about this book is that it is really fast-paced. This book does not really explain what is going on, but you quickly learn that while the story is already progressing. And I really enjoyed this, it made me fly through the book!

I think I really enjoyed this book since it read so fast, and that was exactly what I needed! I read it after finishing David Copperfield, and that book took me forever to read, so something quick was fantastic!

But I have to say that some parts were a bit unbelievable. I’ve not been through anything that Grace went through, so this is just based on what I think not from personal experience. But I think that things went a bit to easy. So before the start of this book she lost her best friend, and in my opinion restoring this friendship went really easy and fast. It felt like it was already okay before they even talked ?! And of course it can be easy if they understand why they did the things they did, but it was like they were best friends again immediately. But I would think that after two years of not talking at all, you need to get ‘to know’ each other again.

Also her believing Owen really fast without any proof, felt a bit unbelievable. But maybe that is because despite everything she thrusts him or something?

But nevertheless this is a really strong story with a good message! Try to be brave even when you do not want to.

 

Recommend for:

Definitely for people who like contemporaries! Especially a contemporary with a romance on the background.

If I’m correct the author went through this herself, so I would recommend this for sexual assault representation!
