What is it about? (Summary from GoodReads)
Sydney once had
Serena—beloved sister, betrayed enemy, powerful ally. But now she is alone,
except for her thrice-dead dog, Dol, and then there’s Victor, who thinks Sydney
doesn’t know about his most recent act of vengeance.
Victor himself is under the radar these days—being buried and
re-animated can strike concern even if one has superhuman powers. But despite
his own worries, his anger remains. And Eli Ever still has yet to pay for the
evil he has done.

What I thought:
I loved going back into this world! I absolutely loved the Victor-Eli thing in book 1, and I was so curious how she was going to continue their story.
This book reads so ridiculously quickly, I think it’s partly because of her writing style, but also because of the short chapter! I read like 100 pages of this every day, during my exam week?! I guess that says something about how good this book is and how quickly it read.
Normally I’m not a huge fan of a lot of time jumps, but VE Schwab can do this so good! For this book it really added something to the story. You learn to know new characters in the present time, and then we read small snippets of their pasts, which makes us understand who they now are and why they make certain decisions.
This book has some new characters, which first I was a bit dubious about, since the other characters are already so good and I love them (Mitch and his hot chocolate with marshmallows <3). BUT Marcella and June were such great additions to the book. I don’t think the book could have been as good as it is now without them!
This is such a weird book to read. I’m used to books having ‘good’ and ‘bad’ characters, but I cannot name a ‘good’ character in this book. All of them make decisions that would only make them a ‘bad’ characters, but the weirdest thing is 90% of the time you totally understand and almost agree with what they are doing. I really love how VE Schwab is able to twist your mind with this. (Poor Eli, I feel bad for him..)
I cannot wait for whatever book she will release next!
Come talk to me!
