I picked up The Final Six on a whim, wasn’t really planning on it. And definitely wasn’t planning on listening to both books in 4 days haha! I did have a lot of time to listen at work during those days, which really helped haha!

My thoughts:
I’m so glad I picked this one up! It was exactly what I needed. A sci-fi novel, with a competition, that was really quick to fly through!
So in this book earth is kinda dying, loads of natural disasters etcetera. So the worlds idea is to send 6 kids to Juniper’s moon and see if it is liveable/ make it ready for the rest of the population.
So in the beginning of the book 24(?) kids are selected and they go through training and stuff to see which 6 of them are ‘the best’ to send to space.
We follow the perspective of Leo and Naomi, who are both within the selected 24! I really liked that both their home situations were quite different, what gave them both quite different perspective on this whole space travel situation. Kinda from the start we know that there is going to be a romance between them, and it is kinda insta lovey, but I didn’t mind too much.
We do not get introduced to all 24 kids, but quite some are mentioned. From the start I had an idea about who were going to be selected, I really liked that I was proven wrong!
The ending definitely took a way different turn then I had expected, and was the reason why I started the sequel within an hour of finishing this one haha!
I really recommend this one for an ‘easy’ sci-fi, in some kind of school/competition setting. Also really recommend the audiobook!

My thoughts:
I’m happy I started this one right away, since there is no recap whatsoever haha!
I definitely preferred the first book over this one. I feel like this book took a whole different direction then I expected, which didn’t work in the favour of this book. I thought the Six would arrive at Europe pretty early on in the book, and then we would see them with the struggles of arriving on a new planet. Instead we got 75% of space travel, and only a little bit of planetside. And since that time was so short it felt very rushed, and things were not explained very well in my opinion.
Now I sound quite negative.. I still really enjoyed the book it just was not what I had wanted it to be!
I liked that we still followed both Naomi’s and Leo’s POV since they both showed us quite different situations in the ‘world’. I also quite enjoyed most of the side characters in this one! Also the author was a bit harsh on some of them ahah! But the way she got ‘rid’ of certain people felt a bit convenient at times. And then I mainly mean in the end, were quite some stuff already wasn’t explained very well!
The ending is also pretty open, there is still so much that could happen, I wouldn’t have minded seeing what would happen even later on!
I still really loved the narration of the audiobook!
If you’re into YA sci-fi, and don’t mind it being romance heavy, I definitely recommend this one, and then especially the first book!
