Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah @the Bionic Bookworm! You can find more information here!
This weeks topic is Books that weren’t what I expected! To be honest all of these books were not what I expected, but I also don’t really know what I did expect?! But I will try and explain haha:

- Wilder girls by Rory Power – I absolutely loved this book! I have to admit, I read this because of the cover haha. This was more scary then I expected, and I loved it! Also the character relations were so good!
- Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin – I expected to loved it, but didn’t.. I expected some amazing witchy scenes, but that was not what I got..
- The cold is in her bones by Peternelle van Arsdale – Again I read this because of the cover..! This book was so good! Much darker and slow-going than I expected!
- If we were villains by ML Rio – I read this because Lala from Booksandlala loves it. I did not expect there to be so much Shakespeare?! I know I was warned, but still! Also this was so good!
- Norwegian woods by Haruki Murakami – Honestly, I just expected me to dislike this book.. This book is out of my comfort zone, but I still wanted to read it because people seem to love his work! So maybe it was not the book that wasn’t what I expected, but my enjoyment was!

Have you read Lord of the Flies? I didn’t read Wilder Girls because I heard it was a retelling of LOTF and I hated that book when I had to read it in High School. Great list!
Don’t worry I hated it as well! This was wayyy better haha!
I haven’t read any of the books you’ve mentioned but I think you’re brave to read a book that you think you’ll hate. Over the last few years, I’ve been working on reducing the number of DNFed books, so I’ve tightened up my screening process. 😉 It’s working, on the whole but a few still slip pass.
I hope that 2020 is full of more wonderful surprising reads rather than disappointing ones for both of us. x
Yeah I sometimes try genres I’m not used to, just to see if I would like it 🙂
But indeed it does increase the chance of DNF’ing books, which I don’t want to haha!
I’ve always been intrigued by If We Were Villains. I hear so many people talk about it.
I hope you love it if you pick it up!
I also loved Wilder Girls. It was so different and just so intriguing at the same time. I’m reading Serpent & Dove this month and I am hoping for witchy but now I’m a bit nervous. Going to keep my fingers crossed
I hope you like Serpent and Dove more then me!
The Cold is in Her Bones, but for the opposite reason. I was really excited as it just sounds pretty eerie and dark, but I feel pretty bored and the pacing was too slow for me 🙁
It was a really slow book yes! Sad to hear it disappointed you 🙁
