About the meme:
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish, but is now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl! The read more about this meme, look at this page!
This week’s meme is the last 10 books I abandoned. I don’t DNF books that often, but here are some I DNF’ed this year:

- The Night Country by Melissa Albert – I’m so sad that I did not like this, since I really did enjoy book one!
- On the edge of the dark sea of darkness by Andrew Peterson – In always feel bad for DNF’ing ARCs, but this book just felt so messy and I did not enjoy my time reading this.
- On earth we’re briefly gorgeous by Ocean Vuong – I think I should accept the fact that literary fiction is not really for me!
- Black leopard, red wolf by Marlon James – had heard so many amazing things about this one, but I couldn’t connect with the writing style.
- The unspoken name by AK Larkwood – I tried listening to this one on audio, which was a mistake, this book is too complicated to listen to! I might try this one again physically at some point!

I feel like 5 DNF’s so far this year is not too bad! Although there are definitely book I should have DNF’ed!
I’m about to start The Unspoken Name! Though I have a physical copy so hopefully it works better than the audiobook did for you
I hope you like it more then I did! I really think physical is better then audio!
I haven’t read any of these. I guess that’s a good thing, haha!
Haha! Well you never know!
I didn’t do a list this week, but I do DNF if I’m not into a book. Sometimes, it’s just about timing — the book itself might be fine, but if it doesn’t match my mood, I won’t continue. I think the last book I DNFd was a contemporary novel ARC that was trying really hard to be cute and funny, but just seemed too dumb to me for me to want to read any more!
If you’re just not in the mood for a certain book, that will really change your feelings towards it! Better try another time ahah!
I really struggle with DNFing. I’m too stubborn to let it go and I like the satisfaction of finishing, even if I didn’t enjoy it haha. I’m trying to get better at just letting them go, but I’m fortunate to have enjoyed the books I’ve read this year.
I’m slowly getting better at it haha!
I didn’t even think about the reasons why I abandon audiobooks vs. “real” books! That would have been interesting to think about. I agree with you – there are some books that are just way too detailed/complicated to listen to. I try to stick with simple mysteries or action/adventure stories since I seem to be able to concentrate on them better in audio.
Happy TTT!

For audiobooks it is definitely important that you can catch the details haha, and that narrator is to your liking! Otherwise it is so hard to listen!
Black Leopard, Red Wolf has been on my TBR but I have heard many negative things so I might have to have a think about that lol. Otoh, I will say that On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is a book I LOVE but hey, if it’s not for you! Nice list.
It is on many lists today..!
That book just made me realize that literary fiction is just not for me! I can definitely see why so many people love it though!
I rarely DNF something because at the least I want to know how it ends, but my last DNF was Beyond the Black Door. The MC was so passive and I found myself not caring one lick
That’s why I struggle with DNF”ing sometimes!
I couldn’t finish The Unspoken Name, either. The last book I DNFd was Rangers of Marzanna.
I struggled so much with that one hah!
Oh I don’t know that one!
You DNFd Unspoken Name too… I wish I could have. I persisted because it was an ARC but I totally understand why you might have.
ARCs always makes me feel like I have to finish them!
I wasn’t a fan of The Hazel Wood, so I didn’t even bother with The Night Country. I would like to read the companion, Tales From The Hinterland though, they sound much more interesting!

Yes! I want to read that one as well! Sounds interesting!
Not surprised about Black Leopard, Red Wolf – I’ve heard things about that one… lol
It is appearing on lots of lists today!
Black Leopard Red Wolf is one I wish I had DNFd. So much gratituous violence and graphic rape and every conceivable sort of shit, it was so over the top.
It is a popular one today.. unfortunately!
i just couldn’t understand the story because of the writing haha!
Great list! It’s always disappointing when the second books in series don’t work for us. I’ve seen enough reviews of Black Leopard, Red Wolf to wonder if I’ll actually enjoy it when I pick my copy up.
It really is!
I’ve seen it on quite some lists today..
I’ve been wanting to try The Unspoken Name as it sounds interesting but I’m a bit apprehensive seeing it as a DNF. Hopefully the physical book is a better read!
I sounded so good, but I just couldn’t haha, at least not on audio!
